Bernie, a very interesting and unusual machine! I have never seen a bag attachment like that. Any history of the machine to share with us? Thanks

Bernie
Thanks, I just got a Royal just like that one. My brother in
law found it in North East Ohio (Ashtabula, county) where I
grew up.
Any way mine has almost the same bag. The Handle is all rusted and the switch actually goes left to right thru the
handle between the grip and the handle pipe. Really
different.
Yes, Terry, the bag connection I have never seen. I haven't
tried to turn it on yet. Must be in the teens. Wonder if
Stan Kann would have had one ?
Thanks for Sharing
Norm

Bernie,

That is one beautiful Royal, and possibly the oldest one I've ever seen.
Norm, I'm looking foward to seeing yours when Jim & I come to Columbus next weekend.
Jeff

A PICTURE OF BEAUTY !!!!!

I also have never seen a Royal of this vintage. It is a beauty to say the least. I can only imagine what a beautiful sound it must have when running. To me, it would be a treasure to own. Gosh, the oldest Royals I have are two Model 215's. They are youngsters compared to yours. I am very happy for you and also thank you for sharing the pics with us !!! See you next weekend Jeff and Norm :-). Jim

I just love Royals! Those machines and that one in particular in my opinion is one fine piece of machinery in all its simplicity.

Bernie, you're a man after my own heart! We like the same type machines! Maybe it's a "bag" thing?

I know that there is a company still in existance that makes the cloth-covered cord, however, I have not been able to find them via the internet.

Cloth covered cords fascinate me. The colors and the craftmanship is truly amazing.

Wow!

That has to be one of the only machines i can say i am "Jealous" of! Congrats on getting that, i know it is is an excellent home!

The story....

Thanks guys.... This old Royal dates to about 1921. I've had it for many years. I bought it from an old man at a flea Market nearly 25 years ago. It was duct-taped together everywhere, the bag was dragging the ground, switch missing, and pieces of frayed cord and exposed wires dangling. It sat in my shed for 22 of those 25 years untested until I had gathered the needed parts to put it back together. It's not restored, just refitted and cleaned up.

Just an FYI. The Royal that I have just like that one dose
have a clip on front and back brush. Like the straight suction Eureka's of the same vintage had!
Thought you'd want to know !
Norm

Norm..

I'm curious as to whether those clip-on brushes were perhaps an after-market add-on. You see them quite often on old suction-only machines?

Hey Bernie, I was wondering about the cord on your Royal and some of your older machines. It looks to be orginal but of course that is unlikely.

Cords...

Terry - Many have the original cords - some have old replacement cords of the period. I have only one vacuum, in my entire collection, that has a new replacement cord. I try to find old cords of the period and type for replacements whenever possible. It's hell being a purist! ;-D
