Tri-star brushless motor?

Hello all!
I'm new to the site but have been monitoring it for many years. I had noticed several threads about whether or not the newer Tri-Stars had a brushless motor. I recently purchased an Air-jet canister(model designation A-101W). I was hoping it may have the brushless motor. I had a friend who owns a local vacuum store crack it open to be sure; and it definitely does. I'm pretty sure that model number is the current one. Any thoughts? I also heard recently that Aerus has ended Tri-Star. Has any one else heard anything?

about tristar having a brushless motor but i dont think it does. The patriot vacuum if you know it was started by former tristar president in 1990 or so.
The rainbow, patriot are the only brushless motors I'm aware of.
I don't think aerus has owned tristar for a while.

Les, the Patriot does NOT have a brushless motor. It uses a Ametek Advantek single stage motor that the company refers to as the ARC Engine. Look closely enough at the bottom of the field coils though, and you will see the carbon brushes & commutator just above the fan housing. Prior to this, they were using a Ametek 116884-49 double stage motor that draws slightly more waterlift & CFM than the Ametek 116311-00 double stage motor used in the TriStar CXL. The 116884-49 was also used in Vita Vac & AirWay canisters before they went under.

Lokisdads - Would you take a pic of the motor in your Aire Jett? I have never heard of them changing the motor in recent years. The first of the modern style TriStars, the EXL, used a Electro Motor double stage motor that Electrolux canisters also used. This ended when Aerus sold the Electro Motor division and they changed to Electrolux AB motors from the Vastervik, Sweden plant on the MG1. The latest motor they have been using since about 2011 or 2012 has been a JEI, Johnson Electric single stage motor. It looks similar to the Ametek Advantek motors where the carbon brushes & commutator are at the bottom of the field coils, not the top. The Miele Vortex & Domel single stage motors also use the same design.

As for Aerus ending TriStar production & sales? That doesn't surprise me. Back about 5 years ago, I contacted TriStar Distribution in Ontario as I needed a couple parts. When I was speaking to the lady, I asked casually if they still sold new machines and she said they no longer sold door to door, and you had to call them and order a machine and have it sent out to you if you wanted to buy new. So if they were doing that in Canada, they most likely were in America too, and that was the beginning of the end for TriStar.

It was merely a rumor

There was talk of a supposed brushless motor in the "new" model at one time but it was just a rumor the motor in the latest model is a brushed JEI (Johnson) motor as Kirbylux has mentioned above. I've opened up and currently own one of the A101S or CS models.

It's been my experience that brushless motors at this time aren't really worth the hype. They often provide a strong waterlift spec but really don't provide anything spectacular for airflow.

Haven't seen a vacuum that's brushless that has high cfms. I do know Milwaukee shop vac 9/12 cord powered have a brushless motor pulling 140 cfms. The dual battery version is pulling 100. I have the packout Milwaukee it's pushing maybe 50 cfms.

I do use brushless and brushed power tools. When using an impact or drill stopping and starting the trigger you feel the carbon brushes hitting the armature. The brushless are alot smoother more powerful and better in every way.
I know brushless isn't big in vacuums but it will be.

Sounds like a rumor to me.
I would be very surprised with the current state of TriStar if anything else ever gets developed.

They  have been  quiet  for  the last  few  years   ,,  at  least i  havent  heard  any thing  new  from Aerus Tristar  as  of  late .
