I have always liked top-side cord reels on canister vacuum cleaners, as rare as these are. It is so much more comfortable to be standing straight up as you pull out the cord, and even when you retract the cord. Eureka's Rally canisters had this feature, and many European canisters offer this feature as well.

I was wondering why you rarely see this better set up for pulling out the cord...even from such well designed canisters as those from Sebo and Miele and Kenmore and Panasonic.

I can't believe it would have anything to do with restricting the movement of the canister as you clean, or even causing a major trip hazard because the cord runs from the top of the canister down to the floor in an arch. In some ways it might even help movement while cleaning as it keeps the cord away from the wheels and door thresholds.

Any thoughts?
