Today's picture of the day is a GE Model 111. I know that Jack in England has one. There was also a headlight version, one of the first headlight vacuums made by GE, to compete with Hoover and Eureka. David Olsen gave me this great pamphlet on that Model - the Model 111-A. I had never seen this model before I saw the pamphlet. Doesn't it look like the early Singer?
Here's the first page of the pamphlet:

Joe: I'm not sure who made it, but I took a look at the early Singers, and it doesn't look exactly like it. Here is a picture that Dave Kerr published last year of Singer executives with an older model and prototypes of the then-new current model (S-series).

...and another picture, which includes the first Singer (which was made by Western Electric, I am pretty sure). Originally this model was a Sturtevant product, but Sturtevant apparently was acquired by Western Electric).....

John, I ran across this very model about 12 years ago in a thrift store in Louisville. It looked great and was h e a v y, and deceptively quiet when it ran. Another collector was with me and he bought it - I bought a Hoover 825 sitting next to it. Those were good thrifting days!
