Hi John
Yes, I often think back on those days.
Of us searching to find the graves of the all Hoover family members, which were not in the same place, and the grave of Murray J. Spangler.
Of our interview with Jackie Love, which she couldn't publish (because I was still a training manager for Kirby)! Meeting that engineer by the name of Bill Smiley, who had helped design the early brush rolls and was one of the guys who told boss Hoover to "move the wheels back"!
He talked to us for hours. His wife was so grateful that somebody cared. I think those were the final months of his life. But I think my favorite memory is of the factory tour and the two women in the disposable bag department up on the third floor. One looked at the other and said
"I don't know who they are, Hoover gives a lot of tours but nobody gets to the third floor"!
Oh yes, the models vault! That was off limits to all Hoover personell, but we got in!
Remember the look on Stacy's face when we handed her that 'Outstanding Achievement Award'? She had no idea about that. And the first bit of bad press following that convention? The reporter didn't want to cover a 'vacuum cleaner' story. He not only put us down for being adults playing with vacuum cleaners, but insulted the Hoover company as well. Stacy Krammes, and Jackie Love were absolutely livid. Our only bad press as I look back.
We did good buddy! put the vacuum cleaner to good use and brought people together. To think we both thought we were the only ones who had this interest.
It's been an amazing 27 years, thanks for spending the early years with me and for some truly great newsletters.
With my deep respect,
Alex Taber
