That is the question! I just recently acquired a very recent model Sanitaire S670D upright with the VGII brushroll. I have seen metal brushrolls with four rows of brushstrips instead of two. Has anyone tried these, if so, much difference in performance? It seems like four rows would be better than two, especially on the older Kirbys, but I've always liked the VGI/VGII's in my other Eurekas.

I hate to disagree.....BUT!

The VG1 with 4 rows of bristles is far superior IMHO..LOL, But if you ever use a old Eureka with a Disturbulator brushroll, you will throw rocks at anything!!

By 4-row, do you mean the all-bristle VGI or the 4-row VGIII? If the latter, that's for PNs only, you cannot use it in an upright or you'll be needing to replace the belt on every stroke...

You might just be able to get away with using that, as it's the 4-row VGIII, the VGIII has different brush strips with stiffeners, so they cause too much resistance which the belts can't handle, but stock up on belts though (I'd say use Hoover convertible belts, but others tend to disagree with me, even though they work better than original Eureka RD belts and last longer), just in case...

I generally prefer the VibraGroomer II but I do have that brushroll in one of my Eureka ESPs and it does a really good job on plush carpet. It's a bit quieter/smoother than a VG II as well. If you want, you can upgrade it's performance a bit more by swapping out those generic black brush strips for the genuine Eureka ones which are a bit stiffer.

I just noticed that I called the linked brushroll a 4-row VGIII(3), should have said 4-row VGII(2), my TriStar PN has that black brushroll fitted (modified to fit by it's previous owner), but has the VGIII brush strips fitted to make it a faux-VGIII... :)
