OK, I need some suggestions here again guys(and gals). You guys were so helpful last month, I thought I'd pose another ??? to you. My mom's Kirby Legend has finally just gotten to the point that the maintenance is more than it's worth. She wants to get a Sentria, just the Sentria will do, not the new brown one. I called around to the local vac shops and found two. One guys wanted $600 and the other guy wanted $550. I felt a little insulted as I could buy one off CL or eBay for half that. So... with that being said, knowing the reputation for the Sentria, any suggestions on picking one up for $250 or less?? We have a Dyson DC28 we were going to trade in for her, but they didn't want to give squat for that either. I thought about posting the DC28 up on CL or asking for a trade for a Kirby Sentria. Opinions?

Depends...

Odds are, the vac shop probably completely reconditioned it. They may also provide a warranty.

Honestly, if I had a Sentria that I reconditioned, I'd be pushing for no less than $500. But, you'd have a machine that is almost as fresh and pretty as brand new.

If you do buy one from Craigslist or wherever for a fairly cheap price, just look it over well. Most of the stuff you could clean up yourself. If you want that bright mirror finish, be prepared for tons of elbow grease and a good buffer.

My recons that I sell are mostly to cover my labor of the reconditioning process, which is extremely time-consuming. If someone wants me to buff their machine, I won't consider it for less than $100 to start.

Good to know! I found one on Craigslist for $300, says used 4x, too much for his aunt to handle. Waiting on information.

As for the vac shop ones... the $600 one was in deplorable shape. Dirty bag, hairs still hanging on the roller... needed a good bath and some polishing for sure. The guy said he would need another $125 to even think about cleaning it up. I said "no thanks." His shop smelled like cat pee, so that wasn't very encouraging anyway. The $550 was in good shape but no warranty and no attachments. He wanted another $120 for attachments a one year warranty. We will find something. I'm pretty good at looking them over for the obvious issues, worn roller, belt, bag condition, play in the handle, etc... so a bargain will come along I'm sure.

Don't forget Craigslist! I recently got a lightly used Ultimate complete with everything for $50.00. Whoever had replaced the belt has set the brush roll into the lowest position and it was going through belts like mad!
I went to the list for you area and there are some good pickings!

Sentria's are everywhere right now. I picked mine up for $60. I admit it was dirty as hell, but was complete with shampooer and attachments(except a rear hubcap). I couldnt complain for the price..

Dan, let me see what pans out from this guy on Craigslist. He just sent me some photos and the machine looks great... he was at work though and couldn't talk. If nothing else, I know you have well taken care of your machine! :)

You lucky devil!!!! I followed up with the guy from Craigslist last night and he apparently is missing most of the tools etc. Disappointing. He wouldn't even come down after fessing up to the missing pieces. LOL! Onward and forward, a couple garage sales are listing Kirbys this weekend in the area, I might pop out to those to see what they have to offer.

I got my Sentria for less than $100 and it wasn't missing anything and it was in good condition. Just watch CL. There's no reason to pay hundreds for a Sentria.
