Thrift store Kirby Heritage II Sounds

Hi,

So, I picked up a Kirby Heritage II at a thrift store a few weeks ago. I've cleaned the bag, etc as well as replaced the fill tube, em-tor/o-ring, brush plate gasket, and roller belt. I gave it a tryout and noticed it was making a loud kinda knocking or rattle sound. This sound was a bit louder when it was on the carpet. It does not make said sound when the roller belt is disconnected.

Is this noise normal, or are there some things I should get to replacing/servicing next?

Since you said you already serviced your rug plate, and because you also said this sound doesn't happen with the belt disconnected, I must say your brush roll or motor bearings may be gasping for oil.

I guess it may be time for a new brush roll (152584). Good luck!

Try

Taking the fan off it's metal at least it looks metal. The fan could be chipped, front motor bearing or the bearing on upper armature where the beating plate is on older models. It only sounds when you have the belt on. It's one of the three. If you have it apart check the wear on carbon brushes.
There is a you tube channel a dude from Australia Kirby enthusiast he has a tear down on a heritage. It would be good to watch if you aren't exactly sure it would clear it up.

Your motor also sounds like it stops really fast and abruptly as soon as its switched off, the motor likely is due for a full grease job and get everything inspected. That clattering noise sounds like maybe something got wrapped around the fan shaft or the fan or the brushroll and is smacking around the fan chamber.

Well, I've got a new roller brush on order now as well as a hose and some accessories.

I'll probably take another stab at trying to get at the motor and check that stuff out next here in a few days... When I was cleaning everything a couple weeks ago I found a screw on the bottom that I think has to do with a power switch that would not budge and I couldn't separate the back from the front more than maybe half an inch so I just blew it out with a compressor at the time.

Screw you think for the switch is the power button but don't force it. Where the switch is a scuff plate. If you remove the tilt latch plastic lever the scuff plate pried around the edges lightly will come off exposing the upper part of the vacuum switch. If you don't know what your doing watch that video the scuff plate can be chipped easily.
The new items won't help if the fan issue isn't fixed it could ruin things.
