Thrift Store Find of a Lifetime!

A couple months ago I was in a thrift store, and I saw something incredible. At first, I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me, but it turns out I saw a soft-bagged Hoover Innovation for $10! The only problems were that the bag zipper was stuck, the brush roll clutch was bad, and the height adjuster wheels were frozen because of rust. I tested it out and the suction was great, So I got it and cleaned it up.

Awesome! Those innovations are rare in the USA, while in the UK, they are called the Turbomasters and probably a bit popular over there. Why is that when you see something rare it’s in rough shape sometimes?

Not sure why,

Awhile back I got a Bee vac super junior off Ebay. the machine was already in mediocre shape,but the back of the handle shattered in postage. Why does this always happen to rare machines and not plastivacs?

When these vacuums were new - it was just another vacuum. 10-20 years after they ceased production it was just an old piece of junk.

It's like in the 1950's, the Model T Ford was seen as an old clunker and you'd be lucky for someone to give you $100 for one - of course now they're priceless to find one untouched.

The passage of time and the wastefulness of society combined with people's nostalgia for something and a shared desire and collectability eventually determines what becomes rare and what doesn't.

Luckily my Air-Way and Bee-Vac I have both arrived unharmed even though they were packed sloppily in cut-to-fit botched-together boxes.

I have both soft and hard bagged ones

But to me they are just another plastivac on par with a Elite or Eureka Bravo, I still plan on getting rid of most anything newer than the 70s before too long, If I can remember it new, I don't want it.

You better put that hard bagged one on Ebay. If you search completed listing one sold for like $800 with bids. Not sure if it was a scam or not. Makes me sick as I had one in the late 90s that I threw away.

Sure, but everything is relative. Who knew back then they would be so sought after now? I can remember 30 years ago, a neighbor of mine parked a red and white '59 Cadillac 2 door in front of our house. My mom thought it was the ugliest thing, and it probably went to the scrapyard a long time ago. Today, it's the holy grail among Cadillac collectors.
