Thrift Store Bonanza!

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Went into the local Goodwill Thrift Store this morning.  </span>


<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Was looking for some items for the "new" trailer.  Found two throw pillows that I liked and they were relatively cheap ($1.98 apiece).  On my way up to the cashier I spotted this Hoover Portable suitcase vac for $10.00.  Jokingly asked the clerk if they gave "volume discounts."  She said sure, she would give me the pillows free.  For $10.00 I got the vac and two pillows.  </span>

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">It is model 2260.  Runs great, slows and stops with no unusual sounds.</span>

<span style="font-family: comic sans ms,sans-serif;">Cleaned it up and washed the attachments.  The cord winder does not stay locked all the way out and the hose handle clip is damaged, BUT -  super machine.</span>

These are very rare over here, I never see any, and always look out for them. It is in my top 5 collection list.

Looks lovely, great find. Would it not be possible to fit the hose end from an old constellation or similar to the end?

Hose Damage

Don't know if this would work, but have been considering trying the large clear shrink tubing for damaged hoses. I found you can get it in sizes large enough to cover the full length of a hose, and am wondering how well it would hold up. If it wouldnt make them too stiff it would be a great fix for the old woven/braided hoses.

Think the shrink tubing would make the hose too stiff to easily use.-and it would look strange.shrink tubing is great for electrical cables,but don't think it would be so good for vacuum hoses.
I have a couple Hoover "Suitcase" vacs-but mine have blown motors.Haven't had time to work on them.

Repairing Hoses

Thats a great looking portable Greg, and a great find for your trailer as everything will all stow away neat and tidy. Although a bit bulky in use

If you check back through the archives, Aeolian Dave has outlined and method of making old hoses airtight from the inside, sorry I dont have time to find a link to the thread at this time. Fortunatly from Greg the hose itself seems fine, I am reading that its just the clip on the hose handle which is broken, which wont affect the operation of the cleaner at all.

I always thought that was a very clever design.  My grandmother had a Hoover Portable, but hers was either blue or green.  Can't remember!  Very nice find!

<span style="font-family: verdana,geneva; font-size: medium;">Yes, Kevin....Aeolian Dave (Kerr) has a great method, using poured latex, I think for sealing the inside of old hoses. As Al said, it should be in the archives for pulling up again. It really works!</span>
