Thoughts on the Dyson DC14

I finally found a reasonably priced Dyson so I could pick one up and see what all the hype is about. Used Dysons rarely sell for under 100 dollars around here but I found this one for 50 and took the plunge. I have always been interested in the ball models, but I'm still happy to find this. Just wondering what others think of this model. In order to not start a war here, just leave your comparisons to other Dyson models. I do have Kirby's Hoovers, Sanitaires and machines of that nature so I know how it compares to those types of machines. I am just curious about other Dyson models.

Have one exactly like it. Not bad, not great. Clutch for brushroll is the weakest link. I'm on my 5th and it's wearing out. I don't use the thing much any more. It's my clean the garage floor vac at this point. Bought it new to replace a DC07. Should have just fixed the DC07, but I bought the advertising and hype.

The new Dysons are much better compare to the old one. You should try Dyson DC 65.on QVC they said it's proven to clean better than 94 vacuum cleaners :0. but I hope you enjoy your new Dyson is not that bad of a vacuum cleaner

As with all Dysons, the hose suction is amazing but the head suction and brushroll leave a little too much to be desired. I like the bin capacity, but I find that cleaning the filters every 6 months is cumbersome compared to bags.

The tools are really nice. In fact, i enjoy all Dyson tools. I do find that the hose is a bit annoying once taking it off it makes the vacuum fall backwards. Kind of annoying coming from canisters or a Kirby. It's nice that I can just whip it out real quickly, but the awkwardness of it makes me not want to use it.

I like it more than DC07 which makes me sad as I wish I could replace my DC07 with a DC14, but they're overly expensive.

Overall, for $50 I think it's worth it. I wouldn't have paid full price for one, but $50 is a good price for one.

I am on my 4th DC14, the All floors model in white and orange.I love it.
DC14's are robust
Powerful
Modern (kinda ish)
stylsh
Easy to use
Nicely designed
It's light
It's got big filters (I mean bigger than the DC07, the biggest Dyson made :/)

Well, it begs the question that if you are on your 4th Dyson DC14, how can they be robust??

Just because someone has owned more than one example of a particular model doesn't necessarily mean each one has broken.

Robust isn't a word I'd use for the DC14. A clutch every 4-5 months isn't robust. I stopped using it as a daily driver in less than a year as it was spending more time being serviced than used. The 5th clutch gave out a few years back. I took out the clutch and belt and use it as a straight suction machine or with the hose in the garage. It'll probably end up in the bin with the next clear out of the garage.

the DC14...

I prefer a DC07, the DC14 is alright but im not keen on the wand/handle for hose use. atleast on the DC07 it had a reversible wand.

Gr8DaneDad... Please tell me how a clutch lasted only 4-5 months? were the brushbar bearings bad or something. I used a Dc14 as a daily driver for a couple of years mine never faultered. Till I sold it to my aunty and she wrecked it almost immediatly. I would prefer a clutchless DC14 based on improved cleaning performance over the helix brushroll.

I've no idea. But each time Dyson replaced the clutch, they also replaced the brushroll and the belt, all under warranty so even Dyson knew it was an issue.Clutch failure on the DC14 was the most commonly reported issue here in the first few years. Put me right off Dyson.


Never had an issue with my DC07 until the hose split and so did the replacement, both after years of use.

I am on my 4th DC14 because of either selling them off, or giving them away which You may be aware I have given my DC144= Blitz it to my Aunty. They dont look after vacuums well, and they are still using the DC14, 11 months later and they say it picks up well, infact better than her Hoover tiple vortex, vax 121 and vax power 7

My parents Churc uses two dc14's to clean +- 2000sqm of carpet. Its a busy church with offices conference rooms the works and the machines work every day. Never had anything replaced since they bought them from me 4 years ago exept the ones cord after it was left in the lift still plugged in and well , the doors closed and up it went and the cord was ripped in half.


 


I love the dc14 , still my favorite dyson to sell as they are so robust. They never come back and the owners love them. I have never had so many sales from people who own them, They get all their family and friends to buy one. 


 


I cannot understand how a clutch lasts 5 months, I have a 2007 dc14 since new, Brilliant unit used every day ( when I am not playing with my collection) It has never had a new clutch.


 


It did get a new back hose after I drove over the first one.

DC14s are my favourite dyson to sell/use regularly. I've sold them before to neighbours etc for £50 and they all seem happy with them. Just last week I sold my cousin a DC14 origin which she was very impressed with.
I used to use a DC14 twice daily for a number of years. The clutch never failed and it only ever required a new fuse!
A DC14 Hepa non-clutch is now my daily driver amongst a turbopower junior and Electrolux harmony glider.

Guess I just got all the bad parts. Glad everyone else has had better experiences with them. I shall refrain from posting further as I am clearly an outlier.

It was terrible. It always kicked dirt back onto my feet while in use. Guess what I left it to go back to, and guess what's also more robust?

I refurbed one years ago

I like it A LOT more than I was expecting to! Fabulous tools. The filtration is excellent. Cleans much better than the US DC07, and does a great job on bare floors too. The bin is easy to empty and clean, and holds a large amount of dirt. It's basically my bagless Shop-Vac.

I replaced the clutch when I got it about 4 years ago, and I haven't had an issue yet! Overall a surprisingly good and versatile upright.

A bit red in the face...

So, after leaving my comment on the DC14 I decided I wanted one again. So I got 2, just for good measure. An Origin and an All Floors. The new versions with the titanium or dark steel body, and red wand. Both were second hand for £46 off Internet.

The Origin had a snapped belt but immaculate filter. Unfortunatly the cause of the snapped belt was the shot bearings and a hair bin that had nearly melted it's way through where it was stuck.

And Gr8DaneDad the All Floors had a shot clutch and shot brush bar bearings the brush barely turned!! Again it had a very clean filter and all the tools.

So stripped, cleaned all oiled up and I have 2 usable cleaners. May sell may keep. I am worried how flimsy the handle/ wands are. When moving them on carpet there seems to be a certain amount of flex side to side. Anyone else noticed this. I wondered if it shares a similar fault to the dc24 the recent post explaining the body snaps under the pressure.

I can assure you DC14's may have some flex, but its not much, and I actually like this, it makes the machine robust. The DC41 kind of flex is NOT nice
DC14's are robust machines, they hardly have any broken parts, apart from the odd ripped hose, or a bin flap with broken pins, a small clip from a part, but They are decent machines. Don't worry, you will love the DC14's, they are reliable and powerful. In my opinion, one of the best Dysons
