Thoughts on Bissell Heavy Duty

I am assisting a friend to find a vacuum, and this is what they want:
-Bagless (She was a previous Dyson owner)
-Upright
-No more than $300
- Quiet preferred
-They don't have allergies
-They live in an apartment, with mostly medium pile carpeting
-Will probably have Pets in the future
-I already told them to stay away from Sharks, and Single Cyclonic Bissells.
Would the Walmart Bissell Heavy Duty be a good choice? It is heavy, but I liked the one that I used to have. It seemed to have a good filtration system, and it's only $150. It is fairly quiet, and the pre-motor filter doesn't have to be washed after every use. How is the Multi-Cyclonic Fuller Brush? I want them to have a GOOD bagless. The Hoover Windtunnel Max and High Performance look like good choices as well. I
liked the High Performance in the store. I want them to get the BEST bagless for under $300. I wanted them to get a Tacony product, but the only vacuum that would fit their needs would be the Bagless Fuller Brush. Any thoughts?

That was the one I liked. The rest at Walmart looked mediocre, except for the Air Cordless, and maybe the new Dirt Devil Lift and Go. How are those Dirt Devil's?

I like the original Bissell Healthy Home 5770 too, it's a good cleaner. I'm sure the Bissell Heavy Duty is equally good as well, considering it's the same machine with a new name & color. However, I don't think it would be a good choice for your friend, especially for someone that plans to own pets. Because of the conical design of the Healthy Home dirt cup, I have noticed sometimes pet hair & carpet fibers won't just "drop out" without having to give the dirt cup a bang or remove it by hand. They did redesign the dirt cup on the newest Healthy Home model, though, & it shouldn't be an issue if they bought that model. It doesn't cost much more than the Heavy Duty, it's only $162.41 at Walmart's website right now.

However, I would choose a Hoover T Series UH70105 bagless upright for your friend. If they are going to own pets, they may want something with a larger capacity dirt cup. Plus one MAJOR flaw the Bissell Healthy Home models have is they intentionally designed the powerhead to not be user-serviceable....meaning they want you to take it to a vac shop should you have issues. This just isn't practical, especially for households with pets & persons with long hair, which has a tendency to wrap around the brush. One thing about this T Series model is the powerhead's bottom plate can be removed easily by sliding over a latch, no screws needed to take out, & brushroll can easily be removed & cleaned as well as belt changes. And at only $110 dollars with a 2 year warranty, it's also a great value too. The only bad thing is the Turbo Brush that's included is crap & takes virtually no pressure to make it nearly stop. I have the same one on my Hoover Air Pro bagless upright & it nearly stops the moment it touches the cushion on my couch, even with full suction. I would replace it with the Turbo Brush that used to be supplied with the Hoover Self Propelled uprights, works much better & it would only be an additional $15.35. Unless your friend wants a more feature-laden cleaner, I think she would be pleased with the T Series.

The Hoover High Performance is an amazing vacuum at cleaning the RUG, and it has good suction for the tools. The Bissell is a good vacuum, though somewhat large. I like its filtration BUT the Hoover's pre-motor filter is far better. The Bissell's foam pre-motor filter was designed to allow fine dust through the motor, which makes their expensive side HEPA filter fill up fast. I have a Hoover Windtunnel MAX and a Hoover Air Pro, and prefer the Air Pro's swivel nozzle - however the brush diameter is narrow, requiring frequent cleaning of the hair from the brush bar. The High Performance has a large diameter brush roller, and I think it would be the best choice for your friends.
