This Year's Florida Vacuums!

Every year, we come down to Naples, Florida to visit my grandparents, and every year, I get a vacuum from the flea market. I went to the vacuum store I always get my vacuums from and got an Oreck DutchTech. I have wanted one for years and finally had the opportunity to get one. I paid $225 including bags for it, and it's worth EVERY penny! It is seriously the best canister vacuum I have EVER used! The suction is absolutely amazing, and the power nozzle really deep cleans. It is great! After I bought that, I found a very nice Tri Star DXL for $20 dollars! It is missing one of the back wheels, but I can get one of those easily. It came with an aftermarket hose, wands, power nozzle, crevice tool, upholstery tool, and the metal floor brush! The cord and bumper are perfectly white with no rips or scuffing, and the inside doesn't have a spec of dust! I was so surprised to find that, especially from a flea market vendor! I have a feeling it was refurbished and bought from a vacuum store since it is so clean, and has the aftermarket hose. But you can't beat that price! The Dutch Tech picture is kind of bad, but it's the best I can do for now.

NICE! What kind of grip does that tristar hose have? Is it the pistol grip, or gas pump?

The machine end looks close to original, with the exception of a strain relief type feature.

I'd say you had a great Spring Break! Congratulations, those are very nice finds! Can you look on the builder's plate on the Oreck and see where it is made? I've wonder how they perform.

I did buy the Oreck used. It is a pistol grip on the Tri Star. My CXL has the same hose that your's picture has though! I absolutely love Tri Star / Compacts. Although, a longer hose would be nice.

I think their length is good compared to some. I think mines a 10'. I dont know if thats the only size they came in. I would like to see a long filter queen hose, or kenmore whispertone hose. Those would be great.

Forgot to mention to, the Oreck is VERY quiet! As I was vacuuming my grandparent's house, I was having a conversation with my grandma!

Your hose is most definitely not a ten foot, because my Kenmore Progressive has an 8' hose and that is the extremely long, in fact, the second longest I have seen. The TriStar is probably a 6 foot.

Whats the difference between the CXL and DXL?

Whats the serial number on your DXL? (or if you know how to date them by it)

The CXL in the picture I posted was made in 1998. I dont recall when current CXL was made. I think it was 92.

The date is the first two numbers. The DXL I got is a 1994, and my CXL is 91 I believe.

hmm... Must be thinking of another hose I have. I remembered having a hose that was really long. I thought it was my tristars hose. I do remember it being of a good length, and not having to move the canister much, as I do with the filter queen and such.

It's interesting to hear that your Dutch Tech says Made in the USA. I always thought that the canister unit was made in Holland by the Philips Company which is why Oreck called them "DutchTech" vacs. I guess Oreck bought the design drawings and specs to make the canisters in the USA.

You can still find the 220volt version of the canister in homes in Europe - maybe our friends overseas can verify this for us?

That bags say 'Made in Germany' but all I can find on the stick is New Orleans USA. But if I found out otherwise I can let you know, unless anyone on here knows.

Chase - believe it or not, Philips used to give European city names to each of their canister vacs at some point in the past. Your canister was called the Philips "Oslo"!!!!

I found a British Amazon website selling bags for your vac that shows a pic of the Dutch version of your canister. Just click on the images on the left of the page (under "see larger image and other views") to blow it up and you'll see the Oslo line up of Philips vacs - one is identical to your green machine:

There's not much out there that can beat that Wessel Werk power nozzle on the Oreck canister.
