This weekends haul...

This past weekend I was blessed with 3 vacuums. A fellow in a nearby town swapped the vacuums with me for an Oreck XL21.

He was kind enough to round up the vacuums for me saving me a trip south. I met him halfway.

I received: A Sunbeam Hide-a-Cord motor unit only, a Patriot Classic and a Kenmore KenKart Commander. I cleaned up the Sunbeam and Patriot. Now I am working on the Kenmore.

As I mentioned, I am missing the attachments, User's Manual and the hose for the Courier. Any help would be appreciated.

The Patriot seems complete, I just finished the spa treatment of the power nozzle which is a Sebo.

So far the Kenmore looks good. The guy said he found it in his relative's attic. Explains why the 18' burgundy cord was fried and melted. The attachment apron is intact except for a hole in the wand pouch, a busted top strap and of course, the elastic bands which hold the attachments. Came with 2 original burgundy tools plus some white newer ones.

I will first replace the cord to see if the motor works. I already have another parts Kenmore tank. Inside was a package of Glamorine brand GE vacuum bags.

have been reading about them. I requested a User's Manual for my model. I think I will enjoy using it. Right now I had to wash out the power hose and will have to wait till it is thoroughly dry.

I did plug everything in before that and found everything works....including the just spa-ed Sebo Electronic power nozzle.

All I have on-hand are TriStar vacuum bags. From the configuration inside the lid and motor base, these will be sealed properly.

I had seen someone had written that you need to use "Stormy" bags only.

Patriot Vacuums

Garry (FantomFan 57) I use tristar bags (Dust Care Brand) I like these because they have an extra filter built in to each bag. They come in a package with a picture of a new style Tristar on the front of the package at the top. But don't get the package that has an picture of an old compact on them those only have one layer of filter paper in them. The double filter paper bags my Patriot man sold me. so then I found them on Ebay and I think I paid $12.00 for three packs of 12 that gives you 36 bags... I got so excited I bought more packs now I have over 100 bags guess I probably won't have to look on ebay for more bags for a long time.. Dan

I already had these.....no idea where I got them...probably Goodwill. I think I have another package of 12.

I am eager to use it, probably Wednesday. Both the motor and PN sound POWERFUL!
Can't wait to see what it pulls from the carpet.

I would agree with Dan about not using the generic or genuine Compact/TriStar paper bags without the microfiltration layer. It seems that those bags clog with dust REAL QUICK, with hardly any dirt in the bag, & you have to change bags more than needed. The microfiltration bags are a bit better. In addition, you don't have to wash the cloth outer bag nearly as often, it doesn't get dirty & dusty as quickly if you use the microfiltration bags.

However, what I have found works even better is to use a Kenmore 5055 HEPA Cloth bag. Just take the cardboard collar off, & cut open the bag at the front seam that's closest to the collar. Stuff that into the outer bag, roll the rest of the bag over the rim, & put into the TriStar. Works much better, makes the TriStar maintain suction power much better. Tom Gasko has also said he uses the Numatic Henry HEPA Cloth bags too.

Results...

I do love it! Worked perfectly, sounded great and was very effective in cleaning. The Sebo made PN really groomed the carpet. Only thing I noticed was the PN elbow is not designed to swivel.

Felt like it dug down deep...enough to where the bags filled up quickly. The cloth bag and inner cavity were dust free.

I found a storage spot in the Master bedroom closet as the front closet is full.

So the daily drivers are: Dyson DC18, Electrolux Grand Marquise, Rainbow D4 and now the Patriot Classic.

Sebe P/N

I have an older patriot and it is indeed and very powerful machine and the Sebo P/N is an excellent powerhead despite only have one row of brushes. The only beef I have with mine is that compared to the otherwise mechanically similiar powerhead for my Sebo built Windsor Versamatic upright the Patriot branded one has no height adjuster. The Windsor could get away without having one it will push through deep pile carpet just fine on the low setting but with the immense power of an Airstorm it plows like a ton of bricks through deeper pile carpet.
