I'm not exactly sure what this one is but it just came in, complaint: "loud noise when running". I think the motor housing explains that one pretty well...Anyone know anything about this model?

This is a case where Euthanasia would be indicated.  Noisy, obviously the bearings are shot from being exposed to water.

One thing is sure, it's not a Eureka.  Don't let the label lead you astray.


 


Look, some vacs need just a l-i-tt-l-e bit more work than others to bring them back to life.  


Clearly your job of washing, scraping, priming, painting, and reassembling with a new motor might take a bit longer than a plastic vac.   But, whatever.....

It's a Eureka turtle-shaped Princess from the Orange Era - mid 1970's. If the ratings plate says Eureka Williams, it's from before 1975. If it says The Eureka Company, it's from after 1974. It's not a Roto-Matic as there is no outlet for the power nozzle cord.

Interesting feature I've never seen on a Princess: two hooks to hold attachments on the back.... Must be a very low end Kmart special....

Yes,put it out of its misery!Poor thing!Must have been stored in a WET basement and they tried to pick up the water with it!!Offer him a NEW vacuum-Tell them NOT to pick up water-second thought-offer the customer a Wet-Dry vacuum!

I think she has potential. I'm sure the loud noise is very dry rusty bearings. The ugly part is on the inside. The outside doesn't look that bad and would still make a nice collection piece for someone or like stated before fix for the customer to use in the garage.

Yes it is a Eureka

Turtle back.  Probably built around 71-74 orange.  I have also seen them in Green, White, Blue/white, Tan and Brown.   Was a good little straight suction machine. 


 


We had one at out business it was bought new June 12, 1972 for $39.95 at TG&Y.  That little guy took a lot of abuse, nothing like the one you have pictured though,.

I thought it looked familiar.    A few months back I bought it and it was apparently never used, but it didn't have two things: the attachments, and the lovely, tasty, crunchy rust topping.

That looks a lot like the Eureka that I had except mine was a little more deluxe model with a tool holder on top and a power nozzle but it was exactly the same color and in near mint condition until my former step daughter got hold of it (don't get me started). It was a great little machine and I miss it.

DM...are you sure that Kmart ad is from 1978? When my parents bought their first vacation condo in Hallandale, Florida in 1976, we bought that exact orange Eureka upright from Kmart. It lasted an incredible 20 years without a problem. So I'm pretty sure that the ad is from 1976. By 1978, Eureka had switched over to a newer plastic carpet nozzle with integrated neck for its canisters. Just curious where you got the 1978 date from ......

Under the red K there is "copyright" and the date although hard to read does seem to be "1978".The above Eurekas with careful use and proper service and supplies could clean well for years.OR in the real world they could also look like the first one!

I'm sure they did buy in '76.  Models usually last more than one year.  As for phasing out the separate metal lower bent wand- Eureka probably used Kmart (a discount retailer afterall) to liquidate those.  Shopping at Pennys or other stores, one would probably have got the newere style floor tool.


 


yeah, I have this vac, but it didn't come with attachments.  It doesn't have any rust either.


 


Ray, clearly my ability to SNARK precludes me from ever holding the office I, and others like me, deserve.  It's a shame really.


 


 


Know whats also a shame- there are NEW furniture designers deliberately trying, to replicate the Rust affect , shown in the first picture, so they can make it seem like a new trend.

....boy was I in 7th heaven when we brought that vac back to our new vacation pad! It matched our new orange velour living room sofa!!!! Also - we rarely saw Eureka-branded vacs in Montreal in those years....only specialty vac shops had them. Though Eaton's department stores had Viking versions of every Eureka. So I was thrilled to be able to see Kmart and other stores filled with original Eurekas of every sort and style! Kmart and Service Merchandise and other Florida stores were filled with real Eurekas!!!
