Here's another KSL Link

This is for a Handy Way Sani-Clean. They want $375 for it! Way too much! Alot of people seem to think that old vacuums are worth a fortune when they are worth hardly anything. Would you agree that people try to sell vacuums think that they are worth alot of money because they are old? I find this all the time on ebay, not so much on craigslist though, not here at least. What are your opinions on this?

I don't think 75 is too much for an Ultimate G... but old doesn't describe it well. I paid 200 for my G5 with attachments and 60 for my Sentria w/o attachments. That one doesn't seem to be in bad shape either. I have seen Heritage and Heritage 2 machines for like 300 dollars, and Sanitronics for 100.... people think just because it's a Kirby it should sell for a small fortune.... I just laugh and move to the next add wondering how long they will keep the machine at that price. I did see a badly tarnished dusty Heritage 2 at the Goodwill for 300.... no attachments, torn bag.... it was gone a week later and I just wonder if they sold it for that crazy price, brought the price down to something reasonable or threw it in the dumpster. The Community Thrift Store had a white Oreck companion canister (dirty and missing a few attachments) for 80 bucks one time and I was exclaiming to my friend that it was so not worth that price and not a great machine and they guy who priced them overheard me and said he would lower the price... he said he priced it like that because he "thought oreck was a good name"... some people are certifiably crazy!

I agree! People always price Kirby's for a small fortune just because it's a Kirby. That happens alot around here. Same with Orecks. There is Orecks on craigslist all the time around here and there are like $80 sometimes just for the machine! I'm buying a few machines and some parts off of a vac store owner in Meridian. He has a Hoover 28 and he wants $100 for it! I told him I would give him $10 for it but he said it's worth more than that! It's also been refurbished. I was at the Goodwill here in Nampa earlier today and they had some pretty good vacs! They had a Classic III with a replacement bag and no attachments for $44.99, a Regina Electric Broom for $9.99, a Filterqueen 31 for $19.99, and a 90's Bissell Carpet Cleaner for $24.99. Last week when I was in there, they had a brown Electrolux Model G Automatic for $24.99 with some of the attachments but I don't think it had the hose. The Goodwill here always prices there vacuums way too high, that's why I like going to other thrift stores because they have better prices on their vacuums usually.

Thrift store

In my area, I don't see too many vacs; other than Hoover Elites & cheap plasti-vacs. I once saw a Fairfax (no hose, wands or tools) but not sure about buying one.

I'm guessing that vacuums aren't that popular down here in S. TX? Seems like most homes here have tile floors & little or no carpet at all.

I dropped 100.00 on an all original Kirby 560 last week, but old vacs are kind of difficult to find out here in the sticks. But as far as the posting. I don't think that's a bad price at all for an Ultimate....most of the cheap vacs today cost around that price.

But I always remember some vacs on ebay going into the triple digits...200-300....but then again...that was almost 10 years ago when items on ebay seemed few and far between compared to now.

What makes it funny is the "old" reference. That is a fairly current Kirby. I have seen a Heritage II for $25.00 at the local good will store marked "Old Time Vacuum" Made me laught and then made me feel old. I have one that I have had for 24 yrs. Im only 44. Does that make me old time too? Teens and early 20 somethings see a kirby of any age and it is automaticly "old"

In this disposable society we live in. It seems if any thing lasts more than 3 yrs it is Old. Maybe with a phone or computer this is true as they are out of date before you can get them out of the box. Those product change so fast.

I agree. I bought a Kirby Heritage 84 at a yard sale last week for $15 and the lady said that it was old. I told her it was from 1984 and she said she thought it was older than that but it's not. It was a good deal for $15 even though it doesn't have all of the attachments, but it does have the shampooer. Alot of times on craigslist here, the older Kirby's are sometimes $75 and it's just the machine itself! I always see high priced machines on ebay though and sometimes on craigslist around here too and it's because people think that it is worth alot of money when it is worth hardly anything.

I paid $150 for my G5 w/ attachments, which I think is fair based on local ads for G series vacs. Paid $20 for my G3 which has broken fan, dirty looking, but has attachments. $25 for my Heritage 84 with no attachments, but it's in pretty nice shape for it's age. I think $75 is fair for a Ultimate G only reason I wouldn't buy it is because I have the G5, and I don't want to collect the Generation series.

I go to thrift stores once in a while, as well as yard sales, and I do not come across many Kirbys. If they were as common in my area as they seem to be in yours, I'd likely have 10! lol

The Ultimate G is not old, but I only say that because it's almost the same thing as the Sentria (which people might think is old too!). My wife is one of those people, just because it's not plastic with a clear cylinder to see the dirt. Kirbys last a lifetime, a 10 year old Dirt Devil I would say is "old", not vintage old just "time for the dumpster" old...

I actually am in the process of purchasing a G4 on craigslist with the shampooer and some attachments for $25! That's a good deal for that machine! Kirby's are pretty common in my area. Especially the Heritage II's and G Series Kirby's. Sometimes there is older models are here at yard sales though. That's how I got my 561.

kirby prices

$75 is very fair for an ultimate g, i doubt you can find one in any vac shop that cheap. i paid around $50 shipped for mine on ebay, the only reason it was that cheap was because she said it didnt work. i just got another ultimate g at the swap meet for $10, i just got lucky on that one!
