Note the cord rewinder. It was an Airway invention. I also love the twin motor models. I have a chief, super chief, and Zephyr.

Air-Way Chief.
I have one of these. Actually both the vacuum cleaner, and a copy of that patent. These early Air-Way machines were a real workhorse.
As to the cord winder, yes, Air-Way was the first, in fact, they were way ahead of many other other brands. Most people think both the cord winder and disposable bag were introduced by Electrolux in 1948, and 1952, respectfully, but as you see by the patent date, April 14, 1925, Air-Way predated them by twenty years. This picture is too small for me to read the date filed, but with my knowledge of patents, I'd say, most likely 1920, or 21. As to D. B. Replogle, he was Dr. Daniel B. Replogle, and his connection with the Tracy brothers, (founders of the Air-Way Electrical appliance Company) is an interesting one.

If you could please enlarge this patent, I'd really appreciate it. My Air-Way patent book, like all others, are in storage, back in Pennsylvania, with me here in Arizona. I'd love to know the date that patent was filed.

Thank you, these were really great vacuum cleaners. As for Daniel B. Replogle, his first design was a non-electric upright. It featured a dual bellows system that was operated by the wheels.
