TheBoss SmartVac Discontinued?

So, the Eureka TheBoss SmartVac is gone from Amazon.com, Walmart.com, and Eureka.com. I believe this means it has been discontinued? Can someone shed some light on this for me? Thanks.

I was told from a supplier months ago that they did discontinued them which I'm overall not surprised.

In the UK, the equivalent brand is AEG. AEG released a bagless upright some time ago which I had a look at and also noticed a very similar model by Vax (TTI owned). (Check previous link if you want)

There's every possibility that either the SmartVac has been discontinued completely or the two brands are sharing ideas on what can come off the same Chinese factory floor...

The Eureka 4870 SmartVac bagged upright was a wholly American-designed product which made its debut as part of a larger line-up of silver Eureka vacuums way back in the mid 1990's. I think the production of this particular upright was at Eureka's plant in Mexico just across the border from Texas. It is the same upright plant that makes Sanitaire uprights. 220-Volt versions were made for the UK market and branded Electrolux - Eureka's Swedish parent company. Consumer Reports has listed this as a recommended upright for many years, up until this very day. Tests have shown excellent performance when cleaning carpets. It's one of the few uprights on the market today that features three separate onboard cleaning tools like the Miele uprights.

It's got a very easy bag change system, plus the ability to shut off the brush roll for bare floor cleaning.

A shame that this relatively inexpensive high performer is being discontinued.

Been discontinued

for years already. Amazon bought the last of the production at a cut price.

Thanks for the info. I dont know why I was under the impression it was bagless. I have seen a similar bagged one in the UK but in blue and a silver or yellow filter grid cover.

To be quite honest here, I am glad that they are finally discontinued because I really don't care about these vacuums AT ALL. I've heard a bunch of these came in to vacuum stores ALOT for repair, mainly because the belt breaks alot, the dreaded carpet and floor swicth also breaks over time which that's a common thing I've seen with these and when you do fix this problem, it's VERY difficult to take apart (maybe worse than dysons).

When I've used one of these before, I didn't like them, but the only things I still like about these is that they are quiet and they have good suction and airflow. Not only it was highly rated by Consumer Reports, it was also rated #1 by Consumer Search as their best buy but I don't care about any of those websites at all (except CRI).

I've always perfered and recommended a Hoover Windtunnel Self Propelled over these because I find they do a WAY much better job than these. Which by the way, I was also told from the same guy not only the Smartvac was discontinued but I also hear that the Hoover Windtunnel SP was also being discontinued which I can't confirm if that one was true or not.

Thanks for all the replies. I am not surprised it was discontinued either, as it is fairly old. It did have a good run though. And I am pretty sure it was discontinued recently, not for years already. Up until recently, the three websites mentioned earlier have had them listed as "In Stock"

Not to be negative but I guess it comes across that way, but I'm not surprised that this or possibly the Windtunnel SP are being discontinued. They're old designs and I'm sure would go sometime. It's a shame though, being that they were good performers and seemed to be designed in a time when things were better thought out and built. Whether build quality was truly better is questionable I guess.

It just seems to be a thing now that the good older designs of vacuums are going away, such as Panasonic vacuums and now these.

Good point fan-of-fans - only some brands are continually using the same design and just adding updates. This is what SEBO do as they are an independent company and they're not into wasting money.

Surely it isn't going to be any more expensive to update an older vacuum versus churning a completely new one?

Windtunnel SP Discontinued, I'm sure not.

With Hoover's usual pattern I'm sure that as soon as the SP is sold out they will be marketing it as a boon to commercial vacuums. (sarcasm)

Although, with the standard (nonSP) windtunnel now in the commercial line I am surprised that they can hold up to commercial service. The Tempo is also gone by the way.

You can still get the Tempo through Hoover's eBay channel. The molds are still kicking out the commercial Windtunnel so I am hoping that we do not see that model/style go away any time soon.
