My dad and I were driving and I saw a handle sticking out of a trash can and I immediately thought SMART VAC. I would have left it but I love Eureka Smart Vacs. They are one of the best plastivacs you can get. Of course I got it, and I was so confused as to what was wrong with whoever threw it away. They cut the cord off, and the cut hose off. I took it apart and wired on a new cord to find that there is literally nothing wrong with it. It isn't clogged, and their is a like new belt on it. I have a junker Smart Vac that I'm going to take the hose and attachments off of for this one, since it is practically brand new. Tomorrow I'll go to WalMart and get some bags and it will be as good as new! I'll definitely use it as one of my daily drivers.

People throw things away for ridiculous reasons, some are just lazy though, and bags are one of the reasons people throw these things away, sad really cos bagged vacs are cleaner and more efficient than bagless vacs... :P

People are lazy, plain as that.

Picked up a perfectly good G4 at a thift store for $25 (same thing as throwing away, except donating instead). It has some kind of TINY "type B" bag pushed onto the fill tube connector. There was dust all over the inside of the bag(duh!!). People too cheap to buy Kirby bags or what???

You know

I've seen two kirbys with the wrong bags on them i saw a G3 with a Hoover type A bag on it and a G4 i bought from a community rummage sale with an Electrolux upright bag stuck on the filltube with packaging tape the emptor cracked and the cord chewed off by a dog. It is truly amazing at times.

Another great find there Chase! Good to know you like those, I always wondered. Had many Eurekas in the long ago past, I liked them then.

My aunt has that exact model. She bought it in late 2004 to replace her Bissell PureAir. She has very plush carpet and it cleans very well. She tends to stuff the bags, but when I use it, it doesn't seem to loose much suction. One of the last good Eurekas remaining.

Chase, seems like we are having the same luck these days! I found a Eureka Smartvac, back in June, & it was in great shape too! All the tools except for the upholstery tool was there, cord & hose were in place too, & no nicks in the cord either. Thankfully, I also had a spare matching upholstery tool for it. All that it really needed was a new set of bags & a HEPA filter, as the previous owners were smokers, & a good cleanup. I use it as a daily driver, along with a yellow Kenmore canister I found recently.

Do they make the synthetic disposable cloth bags for these? I almost got one of these off Amazon a while back but I didn't end up (to have as a spare vac)

Cloth Bags

Yup they do make the cloth bags for these, i know they have them at walmart, but i cannot recall the brand but i will check and see.

Great find.... that's funny.... I just used mine for the first time in months to clean the cat litter.... it was late when I got home from work and I wanted to pick something that didn't roar since I live in an apartment (even though my upstairs neighbor is spending the night with his boyfriend and said he can never hear any of my machines)... I wonder why they would have cut the cord if it worked fine....

The other reason for the cut cable (sorry, "cord") is there are people who go round finding anything with copper in it that they just take (and all too often it doesn't matter to them whether it's on the street or behind locked doors!!) so they can trade it in for scrap, cos copper is pretty expensive stuff these days... :S

Or the former vac owner decided to keep it to turn it into an extension, I know I would... :P

I wanted to add that I agree with what bagintheback... I think the Smart Vac (they've re-named it now though, it's not called the Smart Vac now) and the 1934B are some of the last good Eurekas remaining.... I've always liked their canisters, and I saw a red one in Target on clearance a few years ago.... almost bought it, but the hose even though it looked like a 360 degree swivel was fixed in place.... I passed because of that.

I had a neighbor that used to do that.... He was throwing away a VCR one day and I asked what was wrong with it because he'd cut teh cord... he said, "Nothing, I just don't need it and I don't want someone else to have it so I cut the cord!" I don't understand that.... if I can't use something, I'd love for someone else to be able to get some joy from it.... I've put a stereo, my old cheap steam vac (Hoover Duo) and all kinds of things in the laundry room and they were taken within an hour.... I just wish I knew who took the stereo because I found the remote a week later LOL
