The sacrificial vacuum dilema

I've been awaiting another Panasonic vac to come along that I might extricate it's motor and transplant it into my Panasonic Commercial and today I found this one for a mere $6.99 at the Goodwill. It was pretty scuffed, marked and grungy looking but the motor sounded good so I brought it home and gave it a wipe over, then another wipe over with the Magic Eraser and now I don't want to take the motor out cause it looks nice again and works beautifully. Dam it

It may be that the motors between the two cleaners might not be interchangeable?

The commercial is a larger machine, and yesterday's find is the smaller economy model. Did they all use the same motor?

I share your pain, Pete.

This lovely running Jet-flo with variable speed control, bag full alert, chrome handle and the cord - free from Thorndale - is in great shape except for the missing bag holder thingie.

We'll both keep our eyes peeled for a doner Pannasonic, i guess.

This weekend is the last Woodstock junk on the curb opportunity - this time the South West quadrant.

That wierd alien looking lime green Dirt Devil ExpressVac in the background needs two rear wheels - I like its sensuous curvy greeness.

You could be right Jeff since I've not opened up one of smaller machines before, never a need to. I'm sort of going on the assumption that it'll be the same physical size/shape.

Pete, to my eye that beige model is too nice to take apart. IMO more attractive than the Commercial model.

Pete, I have that same model panasonic but with a blue bag cover and off white base. I bought it used 15/16 years ago
and my daughter is still using it in her basement rec room.
They go for ever!

The bag holder thingys go missing when someone, usually not owner one hopes, pulls of the old bag and tosses it in the trash with said thingy still attached. LOL
That probably being the reason Panasonic and the regadged Sears did away with the idea and just had a tube permanently installed in the body to slide the bag onto.

Working my way through the pile.

Yeah, I'm gonna retrofit me a Panasonic thingie tube soon.

Over the past 3 nights I have totally dissasembled 3 of those Thorndale plastic uprights with un-cut cords. Replaced headlight bulbs, cleaned up clogged brushroll bearings, washed out hoses and motor intake ports and dirt flow pathways and taken them for test runs.

The main and usual 'problem' is someone has vacuumed up water and/or fine plaster dust or utterly shredded a synthetic carpet on moving day...then tossed the vac in the garbage as 'broken'.

There are maybe 5 more uprights with cords that might be saved if I don't come across brushroll bearing meltdown. The 5 without cords I'll have to determine if they are worthwhile re-cording or breaking down for parts.

They may not be to everyone's taste but they do run nice & new again and will make fabulous gifts to the less fortunate and clueless vacuumless folks I know.

As for this sweet little Sanyo...

Well, Pete, I think I'll have to keep it alongside the turquoise Transformax.

A very small neat machine with perfect powerhose and a unique power nozzle. Even has a bag storage pocket in the bag chamber lid. The cord retractor mainspring was rusty so I had to uncoil it and wipe it down with steel wool - bastard of a thing to rewind. LOL. Now the cord snaps back smartly again.

Odd how Sanyo never attained a high ranking for their brand name whereas LG in their previous incarnation as Goldstar was definitely a low cost budget brand even compared to Sanyo
