What was it picking up???Gulped it right down!!
It's hard to beat a direct air machine! Kirby and older Hoover, Eureka, Royal uprights are the best for cleaning carpets in my opinion. They have great airflow and use fewer amps than clean air uprights. I've never really been a fan of clean air/ bypass uprights. But that's just my opinion.

Vacuumfreak95-thanks for the answer-That Elite did really well in eating those peices of paper towel.Count me in as a "fan" of direct air uprights-they do the job where clean air machines leave off-bet the peices of paper towel would have clogged a clean air machine.And yes,the direct airs can do the job using less power.This would be appealing to folks that want to save power.

Elites did well!
Elites were a simple machine. Hoovers first as the new Plastivac machine. Despite how simple they were designed they did clean very very well!! Additionally most Elite models were 7.0 to 7.3 Amps while many of the competing Boss and WorldVac uprights from Eureka were 8.0 - 12.0 Amps and much louder!!! I found the single side zipper cloth bag design from Hoover hard to install. But the hard case bag doors were simple for installing the long Hoover A bags. My Grandmom had an Elite that ran in her home once a week for about 17 years before it stayed behind for the new home owners when she sold her home. The machine still ran fine with some duct tape on cord when she left it behind.
