The Original Kirby Heritage 1HD Power Cord

This, folks, is the original Kirby Heritage 1HD power cord (#192081) with the 1967-style shaped male plug (with the 1953 Kirby circle logo) on it, which dates back to the Dual Sanitronic 80. Prior to '67 or mid-'66 the cord was actually all curvy including the front side with the Kirby circle logo.


 


There was also another version of the cord that has a different shaped male end (more angular than this one) which has the Kirby script logo (sans circle) running vertically.


 


The female end of the plug was changed at some point late in 1982 (this one is still slim), since they changed the cord socket on the motor switch.

Heritage cords

I was thinking that all Heritage had the notch between the 2 female sockets for better fit on switch unit.But haven't had a pre-Gen Kirby on the bench in a while.

I wish I knew which 1HDs still had the socket for the slim female end...

There were no Heritage Kirby vacuums without the notched female end of the cord, ever leave the factory. When I had a vac shop, years ago, I would see many Heritage and Heritage II models that had the incorrect switch and cord installed by various competing vac shops. One of the changes between the Tradition and the Heritage was the different cord, as well as the different fill tube/bag set up, as well as a completely different brush roller (4 row instead of two).

Then how would this dark gray genuine Kirby cord have come about (with the '60s-style male plug)? If that's true, then that means this cord is not for the Heritage but rather any Kirby from the 505 to the Tradition 3CB (even though the original cord used on models 505-515 had a round female plug).

It looks like an Omega cord that someone shoved (with force) into the plug receptacle. You can see how its deformed. It was certainly not original to a Heritage 1 Kirby.

My Kirby Heritage 1 made 1981 has a three pin socket including the earth connection in the push fit connector - maybe that's because its a UK model and runs on 240V?

In some cases old style parts could be made for replacement in current colors.

Carries the Heritage I style Female connector, but with the older 500 Series/Dual-Sanitronic style of Male plug.

I wonder if you could please show us a close-up picture of that cord (male end)? Those are rare, and that male plug mold seemed to be dropped after 1983.

Here is the style cord that you were talking about in the other thread, this is from one of my 1982 Heritages, Upon close inspection this is a different manufacture,There is a W or M stamped on both ends.
