The original Hoover Elite upright

At my local thrift store, I recently hit a long-awaited jackpot; A Hoover Elite 350 U4463-900, complete with its unused attachment set! Then, scarcely a month later, I found a Hoover Elite 200 U4455 at the same store, and in equally good.condition! After a thorough cleaning and a belt replacement, I tried them both out, and was most impressed by their performance. Any other collectors have these or any similar models in their collections?

Had the Elite 350 when she had her own apartment. When she moved back home with her parents, she said she was going to give it to me, but she never did.

Early Elite

Just got the darker gray 350(?) with bigger bag and side zipper with instruction book.The 200 was common at one time.When these first started coming in for routine belt changes and service many would have the cloth bag folded flat with ends extending beyond slide at top.Later Hoover added separate instruction sheet to further show correct folding of bag.They became one of the best choices in their price ranges.

Have the same 350 that you have pictured above although the bag on mine is not in the best of shape

I really like the lower amp models they are not as noisy. 




On my Elites, I’ve found the handle to be a little shorter; it could just be the angle of the handle.

I do like the Elites, the only thing is that the later ones were too noisy for me. I see various earlier and later ones at the thrift stores here, but they are often dirty and missing the attachments and hoses. How was the hose suction with the converter compared to the earlier machines such as Convertibles or Concepts?

With the earlier Elites, with the pan-style converter which snapped on to the bottom front of the cleaner, the suction was rather low-as it was with most direct-air uprights of the time, which used basically the same conversion setup. However, despite the low suction, the Early Elites still.did a fairly good.job of lighter dusting chores because the tools were well-designed and made the most of the available suction. The newer Elites, with the topside accessory ports, had considerably higher suction, due in part to the converter being inserted much closer to the fan, in such a manner that it completely sealed off the suction duct to the carpet nozzle, thus diverting all the suction directly into the hose. Furthermore, the newer Elites had suction impellers with twice as many vanes as the earlier models, which allowed them to move more air and thus increase suction.

I have one of the 350's. Mine is beat all to hell. It's seen a lot of hard use over the past 20 years, but it's still working pretty well all things considered.
