The Original Bissell Lift Off

Today on my way to work I passed a garage sale and decided to stop since it looked pretty big. I came across something that I have been after for a while now, an original Bissell Lift Off. I used to have one of these but I ended up giving it to Kyle. For $5, there was no way I could pass this up. It's in pretty good condition, just needs a good cleaning. It came with all of the attachments besides the upholstery tool, as well as a 12 foot extension hose that I can use with my Tacony machines. I'll post a final product picture within the next day if I get around to it.

I have one just like that I got for $10 when I was in Salt Lake City, UT about a year ago. Mine says Bissell Lift Off on the front though, it doesn't say plus like yours. Is there a big difference between the two models? I think mine is also a 12 amp but I'm not sure.

I revealed the bagged Lift-Offs were taken off the market in 2004 and replaced with the bagless models.

Nice find, it looks in great shape! I believe that would be a mid-late 90s model, these first came out in about 1994-95. The Lift Off name would have been later. The newer bagless Lift-Offs aren't bad, but are pricey IMO for what is really a fancier PowerForce.

Nevermind Chase, I looked at mine and it says Plus in printed lettering and 11 amps in white. Yours looks like it's in a little better shape then mine though. My other one is purple with a white canister. I think that is one of the lift offs but it may be a plus I can't remember? Either, way, these are great machines!

The Lift-Offs from 1995-2003 are built better than the 2004-present models.

The bagless Lift-Off straight vacuum cleaners came in two different iterations. The earlier ones have a two electrical pin plug between the canister and the floor nozzle. The later ones have a three pin arrangement. The two pin versions have been subject to numerous electrical failures (at the plugs I mentioned), so I'd have to say the later ones (including what is available now) are better, at least as to reliability and longevity. There aren't many differences otherwise and many parts are interchangeable. Models 3750 and 6595 are two pin versions; the 3760 series and 89Q9 (currently sold) are the later ones. Colors I've worked on: Lots of candy apple red, blue, silver, weird metallic olive green color but there may be one or two others.

The bagless Lift-Offs are the only Bissell products that I will work on in the secondary market. Their somewhat unique and versatile design makes them popular and they sell quickly. Replacement parts availability very spotty.

Bissell is really getting lot of mileage out of the Lift-Off name. They have a Lift-Off steam mop, a carpet cleaner and a stick vac using it as well.

I got one of those in green for free from my vac shop. needed a repair in the housing for the brushroll. I like how it has a separate brush "off" switch compared to the later white/black lift away model which only shut the brush off when stood up. My dad has one of those. I hate that one.

they became a fire hazard. when you put them back on the frame they didn't connect all the way and you got some electrical smoking. the company did come out with a after market fix for the problem...
