The one that got away..

Vaco wacko here! Ive been out of the vacuum game for awhile now but im back!
So recently i was out shopping at the local thrift store and saw this beautiful kirby heritage 2 barley any dirt on it brush roll was cherry clean etc for only 12 dollars I thought man this is a steal!
Unfortunately i left my money at home and necet had a chance to come back to it. Anyone else have stories about vacuums they let slip away?

Hmmmm....not too many I let slip away....I buy too much junk.


 


However, I had a shot at a couple of 60's Hoover Convertibles in the trunk of a car.....they could have been really valuable, I dunno. I was ambushed with vacs that I didn't know he was gonna bring....or I would have done some research in here on the Hoovers.

I got to goodwill like....2 hours too late in february and missed out on a Kirby that was there. All I got of it was the hose that the idiots left behind, it looks like it was rarely used. I got the hose for just $2.50.

Otherwise I pass on some vacuums if it doesn't look interesting enough to me. I tend to collect weird & obscure vacuums, and vacuums that have high retail prices if I can get them for a bargain (I've gotten 5 Dysons so far for under $45 ea.)

I seen and purchased a Hoover Windtunnel upright at Goodwill (the tan one) after learning that it is a desirable one from reading other member's posts here. Just my luck when I got it home, the motor is on its last legs and the self-propel function is DOA. It should be easy fix I hope of just belts and some oil.

I can't remember a time where I was out "shopping" anywhere and left my money at home.

Many years ago, I was out shopping at a thrift store with a fellow vacuum collector who was visiting. She was from Allentown, PA and a real fire cracker. From across the thrift store we both spotted the green KenKart at the back of the store. We both took off running toward it, but halfway to the back of the store, she pushed me into a rack of ladies underwear (I've never been the same since). By the time I got up, she was wheeling the Kenmore towards the checkout.

My Habitat used to get some nice older vacuums. They had some 60s Convertibles in the past, a Fury, and a Kenmore Home Cleaning System that I wouldn't have minded having but can't have everything. Also a Sunbeam Touch and Lock round blue canister that I really would have liked because it was quite cool.

For me this would be a childhood memory, found a complete Universal Jet99 at a thrift store but Mom refused to buy it because she thought it was too old...

At this point in life I’ve really decided it’s bes to Lot shop when one is prepared to ‘carpe dealum’ and not let it get away... only go thrifting when one has money!

A couple of years ago, I walked away from an Electrolux Epic 3500 upright, priced at $35. I thought better of it overnight but by the time I got back to the thrift store the next day it was gone. As luck would have it, I found a Discovery II upright, which is basically the same machine, a couple of days later for $25, so all's well that ends well.

Another one that I let get away was a Kirby Ultimate G Diamond Edition with its tool kit for $50. The store was getting ready to close and I wasn't sure I wanted to spend the money, given that I could see it would need a little work. As with the Epic, I went back the next day and it was gone.

I've learned sometimes if in doubt, buy. That way you can always resell/dispose of it later. This is especially true with curbside finds, because invariably,
when you think "I'll see if it's there on the way back" it rarely is.

The issue I usually have is I get buyers remorse and think "did I really think I needed this?" Sometimes later though I realized I made a good choice in buying it.
