New Kirby is here

I think I like the new colors better. I never did like the gray. I thought it made the plastic look cheap. I also never liked the dip in the front nozzle trim or the model script imprinted on the plastic handle.
While I am on the subject,I don't like the looks of the new light. It looks like an after thought. Those are just personel feelings.

I am just glad Kirby is still around. Like many others I was expecting and hoping for major customer focused changes like they did on the Rexair Rainbow.
It seems like Aerus,Miele,Filter Queen are only interested in makeing cosmetic changes in their machines.

I am not so sure that Kirby's 100th Anniversary is such a BIG deal to the average buyer. I sure would not buy a new TORO mower JUST because it was their 50th Anniversay year if my old mower was working properly.
I can see why we are all interested in the 100th Anniversary but we are collectors. I guess they could use it as a selling gimmick but unless they have a better "mousetrap" I can't see it as such a big deal for the average consumer who could care less what color their vacuum cleaner is trimmed.

I would think their real hurdle would be getting in the the door these days.
We have something to look forward to with the next generation Kirby.

New bag style?

Kirby dealer informed me that along with the Sentria II will be a new bag dock launch, which will only be included with the Sentria II attachment kits for the first few months. The new bag can be used on all G Series bag docks, as well as F style. The card board collar has been redesigned (again) to make it even easier to install.

it is a very pretty machine how ever like stated they thew just a new bag on the thing. if kirby wanted to wow for the 100th anniversary they should have brought back the DS 80 and DS 50 style machines i would love that or the heritage. or perhaps a new style all thogether

Brovokid, This isn't the 100 anniversary model ( I don't believe ) it's just like when they came out with the Legend II. It was just for filler untill they finished the G-3. I bet this is a filler to keep us customers happy because we can say there is a new model, till finally the new big boy is finished. I bet it WILL wow us.

Somehow it isn't as exciting as I thought it would be. :/
Remember when we all thought FOR SURE that it would be called the avalir (or something along the lines of that), and wee guessing what colors it was going to be?

Sentria II Label

So I noticed that on the handle it still just says "Sentria" - they should have made it say Sentria II, similar to when they did the Heritage / Heritage II.

I'm betting it was a cost saving but it kind of seems like it would be important to label the machine in a clearly visible area. At least for me. I'm sure the rating plate on the bottom indicates Sentria II.

Minor detail that bothers me a little! :)

I agree with Andrew....

I felt the same way four years ago when Hoover (already owned by TTI) acknowledged the centennial on the box, but no where on any of the cleaners did it have a hundredth anniversary logo. Definitely "cheaped out" where they shouldn't have.

Kirbyloverdan,
Did U buy the new Sentria II or are U a Kirby dealer or work for the company?

btw, I'm gonna wait for the 100th Anniv. Sentria II; I hope to save enough $ before then.

We're already selling the Sentria II here. I love it, it's really a pretty machine. I am looking forward to the next model though.

Warm Brown...

Doug,
I emailed Kirby about just this subject. What I was told was that the trim is called Warm Brown and that it is a mix of grey and beige. I think that makes it Greige. The accent color is teal, called Mineral Blue.
I still don't like the patter of the bag, but I will learn to live with it.

Yes

The trim on the Sentria II is "warm brown"...however the cord is still gray. The brown doesn't photograph well but when you see it in person it's really nice looking. This is a very classy color scheme for Kirby to have gone with. Very trendy. People really seem to like it.

Kirby has a tradition of not doing major redesigns, but really that is the best they can muster? Also if they want to fill in time keep the same model, please, it just confuses people.

Kirby has had essentially the same model for what, 22 or 23 years? It's just one more color change before the big redesign; something different from the out of date grey bag/color scheme. I'm sure everyone will be thrilled on Kirby's 100th anniversary.

Same Old

Kirby, everyone on these forums (me included) get excited about the next new model hoping it is something different and we get the same thing except for a bag and slight color change.

The Kirby Design

One of the reasons I love Kirby so much is because of their consistency and continuity. All of the machines follow the same basic design and they all have the same functionality and features.

The color change was necessary. The Sentria I was the longest running model and the market was flooded with them. A lot of our sales staff were getting '07 and '08 Sentrias as trade ins on new ones. Even though the Sentria II is only a color change, that color change is very important to the market. People are ok with the machine being 'the same thing' because they already like Kirby for what it is and are ok with just the color being different. The color change is enough for people, they just like to be able to say 'I have the brand new one'. It's the whole keeping up with the Jone's affect.

If the next Kirby were to stay what it is now, just another color I am ok with it. I like what Kirbys are. If it changes but the over all performance and features are the same I am ok with that too. Kirby is the best vacuum product on the market and I trust them and their engineering and research. They've not let me down yet and I don't expect them to. That's why they're approaching their 100th birthday...they are doing things right!

SeamusUK

I guess some people just like to have new stuff and if they can afford to why not...what sold one customer was that she like that the zipper on the newer one was straight rather than curved...another couple who traded their first Sentria in on a new one this year liked the new emptor design... I don't know, people just do weird things, especially ones that have the finances for it.

More money than sense would be nice.....

I'm guessing the F type bag has sold some as well even though you can convert it for $20 odd in parts from Ebay lol.
I don't collect Kirbys but couldn't say no to mine for the price. I have no desire to update it in any way though- I actually prefer the look of the old Emptor......

Kirby

I really like Kirby's new disposable bag that fits both F style and Generation Series machines. That was a great idea on their part.
