The New Dyson Ball

My mom just bought the new Purple Dyson Ball. The DC41 Animal. She called me to see if it was any good. I told her I'm not all that interested in uprights and didn't know much about Dyson in general. Does anyone here own that model? If so how do you like it?

i have not used a new ball, but the other ones if used i was not impressed in the least, they are awkward to use, it must be tilted pretty far back to use it, and they have uneven passes, it agitates better going foward than backward??? suction is poor at nossle. also ive seen at least three of each model of ball machines with broken rear stands and issues with brush roll switches.

i flat out hate dysons, and the ball machines are my least favorite. if she is happy thats all that matters, but hopefully thats not short lived, make sure filters are cleaned out every few months or it will clog.

Tried out out yesterday

Went to Sears hoping they had it, but the didn't have it yet, but the Best buy which is not too far away did. Really, i'm not too impressed. The airflow at the nozzle does not seem better than any other dyson i've used, same for the hose airflow. As for handling it had a fairly heavy handle weight to it, the swivel steering was not great.i do like that the brushs are softer than the DC 17s but still stiff. i just used it on the commercial carpeting they have and it didn't get much up, it's probably best suited to a medium pile as i've heard that when using them on high pile when you pull the machine back the head loses contact with the floor. It's...interesting for sure but not worth the price

"low suction" at the Dyson floor nozzle-Later Dysons-forget what model they started doing it-have a slot on the front of the nozzle to "gulp" large objects such as a Cheerio or something like that-instead of "snowplowing" the object in front of the nozzle.The suction is there-but some is diverted to the large debris slot.Dyson had to do this since you can't tip the nozzle by lowering the vacuums handle.

Nozzle Airflow

my DC 17 does not have the large object channel. And i'm not completely sure but i don't think the 41 had it either. I called support to ask and they told me it does not have the large object channel.
Looking at their website the DC41 has 235 airwatts and other sites show the 17 as 220, as it's unlisted on the Dyson website. So it's got a little more power to it but it's not a huge difference.

My own personal experience with Dyson is.

When I worked at Target years ago I bought one. I wanted to see what the hype was. It was one of the Animal versions. I got it home put it together and vacuumed my main level of the house. It was heavy but at first I didn't think anything of it until I tried to carry it up the the second floor and after that I put it in the box and took it back.

When they came out with the Dyson Moter head I thought I would give it a try again so I went to Sears and when I saw how they had the hose and wand set up I decided not to give it a try. There hasn't really been much out on the market that Dyson has manufactured that I like or want to have.

My mom seems to like it and I figure it's her money and time.

dysons are medium weight, i can pick one up and hold it sideways with one hand, but there is alot of upper end weight due to the large cyclone and hose setup.

compaired to a kirby its like a feather, compaired to a oreck its a bag of sand (there is not much to oreck but it is impressive i can pick it up with one finger by the cord.

the weight is there but that is the least of its issues.

in my opinion, the newer dysons get, the worse they become, older 07 are so so, new ones to me are not worth the box it comes in.

the whole swivel system is just hype, it does not make it any easier to use, to me, its makes it more difficult.

there is not nearly enough suction or flow to deep clean carpet, it will just grind it into the backing, i have tested a kirby/dyson side by side and the difference is incredible, ive also tested a low end 5 amp eureka and a royal metal, again no compairison, even a scrawny oreck xl blow it out of the water, you can feel the other machines suck the carpet off the ground,and beat the heck out of them, the dyson can not suck up the carpet, and the brushes just make it to the carpet, dyson lives on because of it coolness and form, not function.

I cant wait till this model comes to the UK so i can get one!

I am a big fan of dysons, and the improvments on this machine look great!

This is my moms first Dyson. She has alwasy had just what ever my grandma bought her or what ever caught her eye. Now that Dad is gone and not looking over her shoulder at any money she spends she decided to spend money on what she is hoping would be a good purchase. So far she seems to like it and uses it two or three times a week.
