Ok for all of you Decade 80 fans/Royal Fans...and TTI haters for that matter. TTI has finally done something very interesting. They have re-badged a Hoover Decade 80 as a Royal. I finally got a chance to play with the machine today when they released them to dealers. Its not horrible..its not great. The bag change is a bit of a pain (takes a Royal L bag or Hoover Type A). The plastic isn't the same type used back during the Decade Run. The hood is very nice and the LED headlights look really cool. It has a steel lined fan chamber and a metal 4-brush roller. The machine is equipped with an overload protector (seen in the hood-off picture). I took some photos to share with you folks..see below

The housing and bottom plate- you can see the two LED lights in the front. You also get a glamour shot of my big toe and dirty Rainbows.

If I remember tomorrow, I'll get a light shot. This is the 6 amp motor and it has a great wind up and wind down...like the old days.

That's kind of painful to see.. I mean, those cleaners are sort-of the last breath of the Convertible... And now with the Royal name on them. It's sad for both companies, not just Hoover. When I think of a Royal, that's definitely not the cleaner that comes to mind. But I'll get over it. They're all just a name anymore. I'm just glad I have what I have.

Interesting about the LED Headlights, and is that a metal bottom plate?

Does it share replacement parts with the Hoover counterparts? Agitator bearings, brush strips, fan, etc..?

I assume it has a step-switch on the handle bail.. If you have the camera out, could you snap a picture of the underside of it?

I'm with you Fred,
It's tough to see images/machines of the past rebadged this way.
I too am thankful for all the machines I have that connect me to, what I consider, "a somewhat better, simpler time."
Now, I'm also thankful for advances in technology and design but to me some things are just sacred and shouldn't be touched.
Whatever ..... I am over it to a certain extent, just thankful for my collection, our club and others like you that began early and have amassed an amazing collection.
I always look forward to visiting others in the club to touch, play with and admire machines from the coveted past.

I agree. It's sad to see a clearly HOOVER looking machi

with a different badge. Why not just slap HOOVER back on it? Some things shouldn't share. I've seen MANY of the new things in a local "Sweeper shop". I know who designed it.. he told me himself. It proves, maybe, that they really only did want the logos, etc....so, I guess it's all just one big clump now. Poor "Boss".

Fred, tears almost came to my eyes when you say that... And now its rebadged as a royal commercial! To me thats almost like, for example, taking a Kirby and re-badging it as a Dirt Devil.

@bob

I haven't seen any of these metal Royals branded DD, please send a link next time one is on auction.

@everyone else-

I haven't taken anymore pics as I have been sick with some sort of flulike crap all weekend (karma for my abrasive attitude). As soon as I am able, we will have some pics made for you all.

Not to stir the pot but what's the difference between a Hoover with the Royal name and private label machines such as Western Auto or Penney's?
Nicholas

well, for one thing,

Penneys is a store, not another vacuum company.And, Montgomery Ward said Ward, by HOOVER.It would be just as disturbing to see a Kirby badged Dirt Devil or Eureka saying Royal. It's as much as an insult to DD as it is to HOOVER. NOT stirring up the pot, just a sad, sad reality.

I haven't posted here in quite a while, but I thought I would comment on this one since I like the decades so much anyway. I have to agree with the last post. Yes, I would like to see a Hoover labeled one, as well as the different colors that we used to have, etc. On the other hand, I think this is a great looking quality machine. Like the last person said, there used to be all kinds of decades and convertibles that said Wards, Penneys, western Auto, etc and we didnt mind those, so whats the difference? Royal is a respectable name, and while its clearly a Hoover, I dont think its that big a deal. I would rather see this than to not be able to find a vac like this at all anymore. To Christopher: I am the one that emailed you earlier about this vac, and about the bag for mine. Just thought I would let you know. I am hardly ever on here anymore. I like reading some of the threads now and then and looking at the pics, but I have just about quit posting on here because so much of the stuff I read turns into some kind of fight. No offense to anyone, I just dont comment much because I dont want to say the wrong thing and start something...not worth it. So, I pretty much stick with FB. Just my two cents:) Anyway, point is, love the machine, it may not be perfect but it looks alot better than most of whats on store shelves, and I am glad that in 2011 you can still find this type of vac.

Will it's bag and brushroll fit a decade 80/800 such as a model u4501 and also a convertible model 1070? How much would they cost each?
These models were just examples as I do have others too.
Thanks for the info.
