The "New" ASDA Genie Vac!

Here is the "new" ASDA Genie vac. It's been around for a couple of months and comes with a relatively cheap price tag of £45. But! It has already been here before under the Hoover JC2145 Alyx, and before that the original model, the Dirt Devil Quick Vibe. I had it, I owned it and I didn't like it much, but it is good in terms of its size/space efficiency. It picks up dog hair pretty well and has good suction - the downside is the filter cleaning and is quite a noisy wee machine. Compared to the Hoover, "Genie" have put a proper carry handle on the bin where it can be successfully lifted whereas the Hoover never had this on their JC2145.

Our Sebo Felix's will out clean and easier on your ears,plus the filteration is so much better.I know we all like to try new vac's.Then,I end up back to the Sebo and how much better it cleaned. Michael

Looking at the picture there, I think I'd rather have the pair of Dyson DC01s that someone has thrown out a few doors up from me.... :S

Another cheap, nasty, bagless clogging mess. The Hoover Alyx was a pathetic excuse for a vacuum, I can't imagine this is much better

I don't like Dysons all that much, but I'd hate to think of any Vacuum Cleaner going to the bin men without a very good excuse.

Nope, no room for more vacuums here at the moment, plus I'm not that keen on dysons, and as they've been there a few days, many round here don't seem that keen on them either... :&#92

Nah, there comes a point where having too many vacuums just looks like hoarding, especially if they're non-functional or uneconomical to repair...

Well, I can't compared the Felix - I love my 7 year old model, Michael - but let's be fair you're comparing a budget brand here with a premium Sebo and even if you must, the hose on the Genie is longer than the short one on the Felix.

But to be honest someone in the UK will probably buy it and if any of you are going to compare it with a Hoover Junior 1012, this Genie vac has a lot more suction through the hose - I know I had a U1012 - they're vintage and they'll outdo the Genie probably on wear and tear - but the more modern clean air uprights have a lot more power these days - and of course noise : )

You are determined aren't you! I know of one shop in Scotland that had a DC01 DiStyjl. I dont know if they have it anymore. Bit of an investment isn't it?

Nah, I'd have mentioned them looking like a multi-coloured kid's toy if either of them were one of them destijl models, don't know if they're even there still as I haven't been out for a few days (being awake at night means there's little to do outside)...

I think the beauty of collectors is that even with the more parts you accumulate through the years you can make up any kind of vacuum to fit you needs - where exterior parts are concerned. I wish I had kept the photo of the "Turbopower 2" in progress that I had kept for many years putting different colours on the exteriors, so the bin was for example red, the body was yellow at the back and I think at one point I had the green top hood. With SEBO's X its relatively easy to change colours, but it depends on the parts you have and it won't turn out to be multicoloured unless you're an avid fan of a spray can.
