Buffalo Joe was in for a visit this weekend so we did some thrifting. The stores were pretty thin on machines, but we did much better at the famous Hartville flea market today. We found a 1973 Hoover U4005 Deluxe Convertible with the tools, a 1975 Hoover Celebrity that was complete, a "piggy back" cleaner for a 1983 Hoover Concept Two, a basic Hoover Spirit, and a Lux Diamond J. Oh and a Eureka Mighty Mite II that was complete as well. We had a great time and saw lots of interesting people and made some good deals. I am glad that Joe could come out this way for a "mini meet".

couple nice ones

That DJ looks great, as does the blue Celebrity. DJ's that aren't all scratched up are hard to find.

The Convertible looks like it's in good shape, but I don't care for that style hood. I think the smaller ones looked better. I can't figure out why I feel that way about them, but I do. Does anyone else have thoughts on that?

OK Guys!!

Now I'm sorry I did not get myself going on Sat. am and get
up there for the day. I was worrying about the gas and wasn't
really feeling up to the trip. Now I see all the great finds
you two got! Anyway glad you two had great fun and decent weather.

Norm...

Sorry that you could not make it. It was pretty good thrifting. I also found a nice polisher, Dimension 1000, and a plastic 80's Convertible. I just did not get a chance to take pics of them.

Pat...

I was like you...I hated the full hood models. They still are not my favorite as I don't think that they get close enough to the edge of the carpet near the wall like the smaller hooded models. However, they were the EXACT same machine as the others. This was Hoover's marketing genius. They charged so much more for these machines. The blue Convertible in the photo (U4005) was a basic machine, but had the then all new look. These have grown on me over the years. I have the full hood sets from 1973, 1975, and 1977. They got downgraded in 1980 by the decade series which I liked even less. I wonder how everyone else feels about Hoover's "full" hood models?

Safe and Sound

Well, I made it back to Buffalo in a little over 4 hours. Many, many thanks to Tom and his family for hosting me this weekend on such short notice. I took home some nice machines. I especially like the "electronic" Concept 2 Hoover from Tom. I'll have to get a pic posted of that. The Diamond J Lux needs a little TLC. The side shown was its "good" side. It has potential though as well as all the others I took home.

Anyways, thanks Tom and Heather for having me spend Memorial Day with you.

full hoods

that specific full hood shape is my favorite. i LOATHE the UK "Ranger" style. funny about the edge clearance, the top-clearance is seriously compromised as well. one thing i like about the full hoods: the early models with the original-style motor and full metal base seem to be the quietest Convertibles.

full hood convertibles

Tom, I do prefer the small hood convertibles for the same reasons, but I do like the full hood ones to, for the fact that I dont have to repaint the hole vacuum, just the handel when I rebild them to sell in my vac shop. I do keep some for my collection though.

P.s. glad to see that you found some good vacuums this weekend. all I found good is the saxony canister I posted. It seems to be a bit leen on vacuums this year near me. maybe I found to meney last year.

Tom & Joe,

Great finds this weekend! Sounds like you both had a lot of fun. Would have liked to have been there, but had a full weekend myself. Worked at the museum Saturday, took a "daytrip" to Indiana Sunday for in-laws 30th anniversary, and hosted a family cookout here today. Glad I took vacation days for tomorrow and Wednesday, I need a break!!
