So, there I was, minding my own business, when I get an E-Mail from a fellow vacuum collector. The E-Mail was a notification of an EBay auction for a less than good shape rare Electrolux Thrift model T. In fact it seemed to be in pretty bad condition actually, which made this fellow club member think of me! The note read "You will buy this". Well, fearing that I would be "expelled" from the club, I did in fact bid on it. And I won. I'm not quite sure if I am more upset about the condition of the unit reminding someone of me...or, being pressured into buying it. This club member will remain nameless, for fear of retaliation. So, if you are reading this - Mr. R from Orange County California - I thought you might like to see some pics of the unit. My hands are sweating and it's hard to type....

I wonder if Aeoliandave's hose repair

would work on this one? I have no idea what the other hose went to!

Well, here's the Unit!

Surprisingly in good shape. Considering some of the stuff I have posted on here. This thing looks brand new.

The as/ whoops!...The rear end.

The switch is inoperable and it has some bojack cord attached. The cover is 45 degrees off too.

You may have noticed...

that the machine is lacking it's wheels. This was most likely the main reason for my being thought of. While I still have all of my parts, they don't work as well as they should.

A little rusty,

but still as sound as the day it was first driven off the lot, "the can with the motor in it" will this summer be "reborn"!

While, Electrolux had already

produced a model "S". This one should have received that honor. "S" for spare parts. Here is the LX handle forced between two mounts. I'd show you the "E" wheels that Lux bestowed upon the unit, but alas, it is lacking those.

According to the manual....

"If the dust container bag becomes thin, or a hole is worn into it, make sure you sew a patch on it" Or two....

Hammertone......

Yeah, I'm real good with that! Someday I will come up with a procedure to replicate the original finish applied fifty years ago. (A hint - I'm getting closer!!!) Maybe by the time I'm ready to do this one, I'll have it perfected.

I'm having fun with this thread....

Actually - Rick (Whooops!!!) wrote to me because he understands that the restoration of these machines is the fun part of the hobby for me. It was very kind of him to think of me. I had a Thrift model T over twenty years ago, and (whimper) I threw it away. (Hope the vacuum Gods don't read this!) When it is finished I will post some after pics.

I forgot to mention...

Brave soul that I am...I did plug this thing in. It was fun to watch the dust from the leaky bag and what has no doubt built up on the fans for fifty years blow out the back - and the two holes that are supposed to hold the wheels! But it sounds like new. It takes forever to wind down, the bearings- no whining, no rubbing- no vibration. And actually very quiet. Surprised the hell out of me. Inside, very little rust.

Nope, can't a dadblasted thang with that hose...

...nice of him to include it, tho.

But that's fantastic news about the motor, Rick. One less major thing standing in it's way to a full resurrection.

I think it's wild it's actually called 'Special Thrift Model T' on the label. The Lady would be proud of her new machine but would be under no delusion it was top of the line - like those other snooty Bridge Gals from the neighborhood had. Some kind of cruel reverse marketing? :-)

Is that raised applied Electrolux script along the side?

Oh yeah, almost forgot...another Mixmaster joined the Parade today direct from the hands of the lady bringing her Granny's cream yellow Sunbeam Model 1 into the Sally Ann at the same time I was coming in. I just had to sideline her in the parking lot. Sally Anne gets $30, I get the elusive Model 1 in superb condition. It came with the Jadite green bowls for a Model 3/5/7 and juicer but of course the large Sunbeam bowl with handles hits the stand on this model unless you shift the turntable. I replaced it with the smaller set in white.

It looks so much better with the Jadite so back they go. I'll mix this weeks muffin batter with it.

Met up with Stanley and we went to the high priced Antique Flea Market at the edge of town to see neat stuff and laugh at the prices. This is always a great way to waste an afternoon.

Another mixer, a battery operated toy with a juicer axle. But no turntable or bowls and the battery door is missing. $24.

But, very very very cool - an unassembled cardboard knockdown Santa Chimbley. The tabs are all there, slots show no signs of use, the 3 layer fireplace sits inside with a red lightbulb, has the original shipping carton and I will be going back to consider it tomorrow. It's so 50s cute!!!

For scale, it's sitting in front of a 7 foot garage door.

DingDang - Flangpoople - Dadblasted - Razzamatazz-...

Someone has soiled my thread!!!!

No problem here Dave! Unfortunately, the pictures of your lovely appliances might not be viewed as folks tend to avoid my threads like the plague!!!Look what I did to poor Mr. MethodistBill. The Electrolux script on the sides of the "T" are embossed as it was on the E through G machines. There is still a hint of the yellow on parts of the script. The color scheme is the same as on the "E" and "AE". From what I can tell, I'll list the "borrowed parts" that make up this machine. Anyone who knows more than I do can chime in if I am wrong on this.

Motor - same as "AE"
Switch - "E"
Handle - "LX"
Interior bulkhead (between motor and bag) Modified "XXX"
Front "coaster" later used on "S" and "R" though modified with wheels.
Rear wheels - from the "E"
Tool clip - Exclusive to this machine (I think)
Rear wheel bracket - exclusive to this machine.
Bag cover clips - similar to "S" and "R"
