Hello Kirby fans! I would love to show you one of my best vacuums of my collection and I'm know all of you collectors know this vacuum, a Kirby Classic III 2-CB, this is one of my favorite Kirbys in vacuum cleaner history, Kirby made the Classic III from 1976 to 1979 and features a more appealing candy apple red color instead of rosewood brown, the last Kirby vacuum that made was in red, it was the model 561(1961-62) till they made new ones that was tan, green, and brown. But anyways, I found this piece of gem laying on a pile of junk on the curb one night 4 yrs ago while I was walking my dog. So I got home and plugged it in and runs really good, just like normal and noticed that the bag need to be washed after dumping out the dirt so the next morning I put it in the washer and some how the zipper got ruined so I haven't used the Kirby to vacuum with for while and it also needed a new brushroll and belt so about 2 years later when I started working I ordered a new 4 row brushroll and genuine belt too and the funny thing is that I got another Classic III from goodwill last January and used it for a while till the safety switch some how disintegrated while polishing it a few months ago so I end up polishing the one I found and added the bag to this one and works really awesome. But the only problem is that the handle spring needs to be replaced because when the vacuum comes on to inflate the bag the handle doesn't stay upright like normal so maybe I can get some help with that. But anyways enjoy these beautiful pics of this piece of gem, this vacuum works great, its powerful and works like a beast!

Here is the serial number, since the serial number starts with the letter C, this was made either in July or December 1977.

This is the shake out bag that came from my other Classic III from 1978, this appears to be replacement bag that was made by Kirby in 1981, it's in really great shape.

Gabriel,

I see your Classic III is almost similar in age to mine... except I see an early 1980s replacement bag on it, which is what you show us here in better detail a few threads ago! The handle grip, though, appears to be an aftermarket replacement; you want part #173377S.

Your serial # is C484262, which puts this as being built in late 1977. Mine is #B850414. When it first left the Kirby factory, it would have looked almost similar to mine, though the original handle grip was pointed at the top and the cord/bag hook was on the back instead of the left-hand (bag) side.

Is there a way to fix or replace the safety switch, the button on it is positioned down. And a view of the fan, I think it's metal.

Speed Switch, Fan

Gabriel,

Yes, it looks like your speed switch may be in need of a replacement (part #134380)... but remaining stock is limited!

And yes, the fan is the original metal one (#119056S)... it may be good to keep going if the fins aren't chipped.
