Here's another creation from Dr. Moreau's vivisection laboratory...
It's the Royal that I got last week from my vac-shop-friend. When I set to cleaning up and deodorizing it I discovered the power nozzle didn't work. When I went over there again and mentioned it, he said that the electronics in the hose are bad and that's why the power nozzle isn't working. There's no way to remedy this because Royal no longer makes the hose or the electronics for it. That's of no concern to me -- I already have so many uprights and tank machines with motor-driven brushes that I don't need another one.
The Royal didn't come with any attachments except for a crevice tool and mismatched dusting brush. When I had it in my workshop and was wondering what to do about that, my eye caught my Kirby Legend II. The attachments' maroon color matches the Royal very nicely. I found a short straight hose end salvaged from some other vacuum cleaner hose. It fit perfectly into the Royal hose handle, and the other end was a perfect fit for the Kirby Wand.
I won't keep this arrangement permanently; the Kirby attachments are just "on loan" to the Royal. I do want to keep my complete Legend II complete. Besides, I really don't like plastic attachments.
What I'm thinking about doing is cutting the handle off of the Royal hose and replacing it with an Electrolux handle and using gray Electrolux combo floor and dusting tools with it. There's nothing to lose, really, since the hose as-is is no good, and I do have a few spare Electrolux tools. We'll see. I do like the extra-long hose.
Oh, and I did get the cord winder I'd mentioned. It was a perfect fit! I think it looks really nice.
The final indignity I may inflict upon it is an attachment caddy amputation. I really don't like the way it looks. The machine will appear much sleeker without it; and since I won't be using any Royal attachments with it, there's reason to keep it.
I do like the Royal. Its suction power is just terrific and it's not too awfully noisy, so I'll keep it for a while. I'll never be as fond of it as I am my Electroluxes but overall it is a really nice machine, very durable and well made. It's a shame they no longer make them.
