I just made a trip to the local walmart and noticed all the display Eureka vacuums were gone and all remaining stock was on clearance. Does anyone else get the bad feeling this is signaling the end of Eureka? Sad as it may be, when walmart stops stocking a brand it can't be good news.

Has anyone heard anything about the brand? I knew they were recently sold as well.

Eureka was sold by Electrolux to the Chinese appliance maker Midea. They are going through a major transition and are starting with three basic Eureka vacs: a bagless upright, a bagged commercial upright, and the long-standing tried-and-true cordless Boss Lite Quick-Up stick vac. Midea is building a major research and design centre in Kentucky. Their US headquarters is in Boston.

For now, the 1934b is still showing as available to purchase on Eureka's website. I don't know if that will be the case in the future, but they're reasonably priced enough, it wouldn't hurt to buy one or two of them just to have as a backup machine! I really like my 1934b as well. In fact, I keep it in my closet at work, and the custodial staff in the building prefer using it over their commercial vacuums they have!

Thanks!

They are still showing on amazon as well but Walmart has changed the picture and says may require longer delivery. I do believe I'm going to by at least one backup when I get paid in two weeks, then maybe another next month if they still have them. I absolutely love these machines.

From the looks of things, Electrolux has kept Sanitaire. So if anyone wants something close to the classic bagged Eureka uprights, you can probably get your "Eureka Williams" fix by buying a Sanitaire. They even have a basic no frills upright very similar to the 1934 Boss.

Eureka

I love the Eureka canisters from the 1950's through the 1970's. Unfortunately they are just not made like that anymore. Since I'm not a fan of uprights, I don't think Eureka makes anything right now that looks interesting, not to mention the quality is not that good. Hopefully Sanitaire will still be around, they make one of the best backpack vacuums. As far as Electrolux, their ultra one series is very good, some of the most quiet yet powerful canisters available.

Yes, Eureka's

lost quality and style after the Swedish derivatives were discontinued. Excalibur, (a Volta), Oxygen 1, Europa, (that was the Excellio).

I wasn't really all that intersted in the later Eurekas, especially after they discontinued the Smart Vac. I did find the Boss SuperLite interesting, and some of the canisters at Walmart looked interesting.

I do like my Eureka Boss 1934A, so light, quiet and the big Arm and Hammer bags are cheap and filter well and no smell. I hope they keep making them.

If I remeber correctly Sanitaire became its own separate entity from Eureka (once they started putting by Electrolux on the units), a few years back and is of course owned by AB Electrolux. I don't think they would sell the Sanitaire brand anyway due to how popular they are. I am pretty sure AB Electrolux makes quite a penny off of them. Plus they did just release their version of a Sebo copy just this past month. That is a lot of money spent on R&D and manufacturing just to sell the name.

I haven't been very interested in Eureka's and Hoovers plastic vacs, other than their commercial lines. Eureka's Sanitaire and Hoovers Commercial Lines still remind me of the quality vacs of years gone by......The 1934a & b are pretty good cleaners, but not as good as days gone by. The are cheaper, but you get what you pay for. Wood brush roll, cheaper switches, cords etc. However with that said, I would buy one of those instead of any department store plastic vac...

Note: I did buy my mom's girlfriend a Hoover Windtunnel 10 years or so ago. Blue model with the see thru bag compartment. At that time it was pretty well made, not sure if that is still the case today. Anyway, she really liked it. She also had a Hoover Model 29, bought brand new, when she got married in the early 50's. She moved it to her finished basement and used the Windtunnel upstairs. She had a Cape Cod style house and it was easier to carry the newer hoover up a down the stairs to clean the bedrooms and main floor.

Note: I actually bought a Hoover Model 29 from a fellow collector. I found a DVC replacement bag that matches pretty well. Long story short, I actually use it as one of my daily drivers and love it.
