The Elegant Chrome Dome D2

Hello everybody, I'm sure y'all been waiting for this moment and so am I, this is my birthday present I brought from eBay back in January, a vintage chrome dome Rainbow D2 vacuum, I always wanted a rainbow vacuum ever since I started collecting vacuums and I loved the new models of rainbows but they are so expensive, they're like $2000 to $4000!!! Yikes! So why not buy a perfectly decent conditioned rainbow vacuum like the D2? Anyways when I saw this on eBay, it originally cost $250 because it originally came with the original stylish vinyl storage box, but the seller also mentioned that you can buy the vacuum without the storage box, so that's what did, without the box it was $150! Not bad. The tools that came with were the wet/dry non electric hose, straight and curved wand, rug nozzle, floor & ceiling brush, dusting brush, upholstery nozzle, crevice tool (I'll mention that later), spray tool, and the airator (that will be mentioned too). I also wanted a power nozzle to go with D2 as well, so I was going to buy the original electric hose and power nozzle, but I caught my eye by seeing a 3 prong D3A power nozzle and electric hose, so my sister brought me the electric hose as a birthday present and I got the power nozzle before someone did, and I got an extension wand for the power nozzle too. I'm sure for all of you vacuum collectors thinking that it's rare to see a D2 with a D3 power nozzle. Moving on, my mom got me the blower cap for the D2 since it was missing it when I got this and I also got the original squeege tool to give it a try and it does pretty good cleaning floors, I used apple scented fabuloso, it's probably better that a mop & bucket, anyways enjoy!

I also have the original 4 qt water basin as well, when I got this, it originally had the 2 qt basin but sadly it had a small crack on the bottom which caused a lil bit of leaking so I threw it out after I got this, which means non stop vacuuming!

Here's the crevice tool that came with my D2, this is not original to this machine, this somehow came from a D4/SE model which I love to get soon, but I would like to get the original crevice tool that looks like this.

The squeege attachment I got a couple weeks ago, it has the paperwork but it looks like it's printed.

The airator tool, its used for deodorize closets but I might need to try to find another one so I can deodorize some closets

Here's the power nozzle assembly, this is actually an early 3 prong model for the D3 from around 1980-81 till they switch from 3 to 2 prong. I thought this would like nice on the D2 and I love this power nozzle because it looks a little wider than the Eureka made D2 power nozzle.

I forgot to mention that when my mom was growing up, her mom, also my grandmother Carol, used to have a rainbow too, I think she had the D1 without the power nozzle outlet, I think she had it when my mom was born or before. But sadly my mom told me that Grandmother sold the rainbow at a garage sale around the 70's, after that I don't know what vacuum they had.

Word of advise to keep it nice, when cleaning floors with the squeegee don’t use any foaming liquids such as fabulouso.

Nice Rainbow and lots of accessories.As the Windex ad said"It ain't cool if the chrome don't shine" and yours does.It getting hard to find the nameplate at handle as nice as yours.
Hint--DO NOT pull the cord tightly on this(or any)vac when storing.

Very nice Rainbow!!! My favorite model of all is the D4CSE-PE but this is my next favorite. I would NOT use fabuloso however if you try it only use like maybe a table spoon of it. That stuff will suds up very quickly. I used liquid Spic-n span one time and even a tablespoon foamed up and came out exhaust.

As an FYI, Rainbow serial numbers do not betray when the cleaner was made. There's only one sure way to tell, there is a date stamped longways between the armature stackings. This date stamp was on all Rexair and Rainbow model armatures until the launch of the E series in 1998.
