The Designing of the Hoover Convertible...

The "exhaust muffler" was very short-lived. All it was, was a piece of foam glued into the full tube. Some early 65 full tubes you can see the glue residue. I don't recall offhand why it was discontinued. Perhaps John Long or someone could ask Tom Anderson for a definitive answer.

Thank You Guys.....

This was very interesting to read. I bought my mom a brand new hoover model 70 in the late 60's and that part was not on it, so it was sometime before the model 70. Back then a model 70 was the top of the line and cost $69.00 or so.

Oh to be able!!

To go to a store and BUY one NEW!!! Im not an upright person, but nothing screams 50s like the first Convertible!!!!

Thanks for sharing that! I too had never heard of the exhaust muffler. I also did not know that Hoover included a blower attachment. Was a regular part of their attachment set?

yes, the blower

attachment with the early Convertibles. The attachment set, as you see, had a SEPARATE converter. Cost reduction, again, made that become a one-piece unit. I have pics of EARLY Convertible "prototypes" as well as early attachments. You'd die if you saw how different they were from the ones that came into being. I'll try to find them.

Use the Dirt-Finder, John! Those pictures must be found! Find them our I WILL find them for you!
