.....AND NOW I OWN THE SAME MODEL!!!
Thanks to the extreme generosity to one of Vacuumland's members, I've been gifted a childhood machine. The vacuum cleaner is a Hoover Celebrity II Elite S3061-030. I never got full appreciation for the machine years ago because I never ever had the chance to run it with a power nozzle. My father had me cleaning cars with it and on occasion I'd be asked to vacuum dead bugs off window sills or I remember one time, my mother took down all of the curtains to be vacuumed as well. They were the very stiff material curtains with hooks in the pleats at the top and were attached to the pulley run opening mechanism. Other than that I was too young to ever use it before my parents decided not to have it repaired when it broke down.
Another strange thing to my history with this is that I never saw the original power head. The power head that I remember with this machine was a Guardsman power nozzle with the red bumper. I always thought the color scheme was weird to have a cinnamon orange colored suction unit with a red themed power head. Then I learned that the original power head had to be replaced and this was the replacement. Due to abuse from users at our house the Guardsman power head received heavy damage and became unusable after some time as well. Luckily by then we had inherited my grandparents Hoover Dimension 1000 canister, so it's Quadraflex Powermatic nozzle became the roamer of both machines as my parents had a vacuum on each floor. Our cleaning lady always seemed to get small toys such as my sisters Barbie doll kitchen kettle sucked into the machine. I remember the kitchen kettle the most because it sounded so awful, and stunk so bad when that got sucked in. Upon investigation that toy sized kitchen kettle was the perfect size to completely seal off and get stuck into the suction inlet of the agitator cavity.
Anyway, I think another reason I am so excited to have this in my collection now is because my parents barely ever used it. Our house got vacuumed once a week by our cleaning lady who came every Thursday. So childhood memories, not linked so highly to my overprotected/ "sheltered" childhood as I sort of feel with my parents and I greatly appreciate this machine.
Despite being loud, the tone and especially whirl down of the suction motors on these, coupled with the mean looking power heads makes me so happy to own this unit.
****By the way, I rent a townhouse. I did not pick out that color carpet. I have no idea why that color carpet would be in a rental unit. I love the garage, central A/C, good neighborhood and other assets of the place.
