The Campbell Household’s “new” dishwasher.

I picked up this Kitchenaid KUDI220T from my old boss at the furniture store in town. Nothing was wrong with it the previous owner just upgraded to a TOL Maytag. This is going to replace our GE QuietPower 3 that’s been having control panel issues. The Kitchenaid is in overall good shape with no rust on the racks or internals. It just needs a good wipe down.

That looks like the KitchenAid dishwasher that was in my ex-wife's house before we remodeled. The thing sounded like a B-25 bomber taking off when it was running. We replaced it with a newer–and quieter–KitchenAid.

Last weekend was a dishwasher weekend for me. The quasi-girlfriend's dishwasher had been broken for a while and she had no money to fix it so I used that as an excuse to do some dishwasher swapping at my house and hers. I took the white Whirlpool Quiet Partner II out of my kitchen to make room for a black, GE Nautilus that had been in my barn for a few years. Its main attraction for me was the color, which looks better next to my black stove.

Even though the Whirlpool's white plastics are badly discolored, making the thing look awful, I honestly think she got the better end of the deal. The Whirlpool is a lot quieter than the GE and has the silverware basket mounted in the door, leaving more space free in the lower rack.

Any way you cut it, two dishwasher swaps in one weekend is a little much. I hope it's a very, VERY long time before I have to do it again.

Third time's the charm...

The first couple of times I ran my new (to me) GE diswasher, I had a puddle of water on the kitchen floor. After the first time, I put Teflon tape on the joints of the water inlet line, to no avail, so after the second run with a wet floor, I decided to address the drain line. Out of laziness, I had left the Whirlpool's drain line in place and it didn't fit tightly enough onto the valve at the bottom of the GE so I swapped that out, sealed everything—inlets and outlets—with silicone, and when I ran it after dinner on Sunday, the floor stayed dry.

Now that I've got that fixed, I can start trying to warm up to this dishwasher a little more. It definitely looks better next to the stove, but I think the other one is a somewhat better design.
