One of my all time favorite vacuum cleaner is the Black Knight, BK 2000 from Air-Tec. This American Made vacuum uses the Air-Way air evacuation chamber (which Air-Way invented in 1938) along with the Air-Way bags (Black Knight had HEPA bags, which you could also use in Air-Way cleaners). Love the 10 foot hose and the high quality attachments.

Love the LED headlight on the Wessel-Werks power nozzle. Talk about a deep cleaning vacuum. Featuring a 2 stage Lamb High Efficiency motor.

Cool!

I wish I had known that these were a quality vacuum.
A little while back, someone had one on the local Craigslist. I forget now how much they wanted for it.
I had mentioned it on the forums, but I got the impression that people were just sort of "meh" about it.
And I had never heard of the brand prior to that.
Looks nice!

Really tough machine!!!How were these sold-DTD?Dealer?It looks like the GHOST of AirWay.Like the commercial quality tools-NO "multipurpose" tools that are USELESS,the vacuum and its tools made to last the LIFE of the owner-and could be passed down.Too bad NICE machine like this and AirWay go by the wayside.Instead we get stuck with bagless plasticrap machines that grace a dumpster! One neat thing about the plasticrap vacuums-they make such a delightful "CRUNCH" in the back of a RL trash truck!or in front of the packer ram in an auto sideloader!

The Black Night vacuum makes me think of the metal Royal "torpedo" tank type vacuums!!Anotjher fine-classic type machine.Sad that went by the wayside in favor of a crappy, cheap plastic replacement canister vac.

airtech and metropolitan

I think the Air Tech company was started by a sales person from Air-way when Air-way decided to close down. That really does sound like a great machine. As far as the cheap plastic junk, certainly machines that are sold door to door are quite expensive, sometimes overpriced I think, but it goes beyond that. People don't want to pay for quality anymore, most consumers want it cheap even if it means replacing it every couple of years. The idea of paying more up front for a product that will last for 10 or 15 years is a foreign concept.
The Metropolitan canisters are still made, they are good machines, the one thing I don't like about them is, because of the way the exhaust port is designed, the air blowing out of it is quite loud. The Metropolitan is one of very few machines when run on low speed, the power that is sent through the hose is also reduced which causes the power nozzle to run slower as well. If you run this machine without the hose attached, the exhaust is so strong that the machine will actually move itself accross the floor.

I have noticed that the Metro machines are sold a lot to animal groomers-Horses and dogs-and copier-printer servicemen use these Metro vacuums, too. They can be configured to work as a vacuum or filtered air blower. The dealers for these vacuums are not common. They don't market the Metro vacuums for residential use.Too bad-would be a good machine for the purpose.Great for someone who DOES want a vacuum cleaner that could last for years rather than a crappy, dirty, awkward, bagless one that lasts less than a few years.

Another thing on the Metro and Black Knight vacuums-----NOT fancy or embellished!Just made to do a job they were built for--as a high quality, simple VACUUM CLEANER!!!Someone needs to bring these Black Knight machines back-why I might just buy one!!!These make me think of Crown or QSC commercial power amps-they just do their jobs!!!And those amps were made for touring with the roughest "roadies"!and still work. And if you offset their DC offset controls-you can use the amp as an emergency regulated LV DC power supply!Just DON'T connect a speaker to it in this configuration.Something the amp maker doesn't suggest-like using the Pig as a blower with the hose connected to the discharge where the bag would be.
