The all metal royal uprights

Anyone have one? what are your thoughts,I got a line on a maroon colored model from one of my suppliers and hope to have it by this weekend.

You will love it. It will be a noisy machine, but it will clean well and still has the Royal feel.

I am a big fan of the kirby,but I am getting very interested in royals since i saw Rogers maroon royal this past weekend.His royal had a nice metal brush role and it really vibrated the carpet.

if there is one vacuum i regret getting rid of, it's my Royal 4000. It was HORRENDOUSLY LOUD, but alas, a great cleaner and such a nice vintage look to it. It cleaned BEAUTIFULLY.. I hope to find another some day.

I love mine as well.

I got the 801 (blue bag) back when I was 19 and first started collecting at a thrift shop for about 10 bucks. Had to buy a new brush roll for it. It didn't run right, but someone on the old ivacuumcleaners.com forum told me to remove the red caps and add a few drops of sewing machine oil to it. When I did, it ran perfectly. I love how round, light weight, and QUIET it is... it really is the quietest vacuum I've ever heard!

Not so with the "commercial" anniversary model I bought 2 years ago. It's one of the loudest vacuums in my collection. I was going to start cleaning vacation homes with a couple ladies, so I bought this vacuum for that purpose. I was at a thrift shop, and they the had a 10 dollar price tag on it. It is pretty ugly cosmetically, but it works like a champ. Cleans VERY well. I LOVE that this one has the foot activated height adjust. I do miss it having the adjust-o-rite meter though.

I like the bag off the slide, the metal, and the winged shape of the nozzle. I also like that there isn't much plastic (even Kirbys while they have wonderful ballooning bags have plastic handles) on them. I also love the metal toggle switch right within a finger's reach.

Now, the 801 isn't very powerful at all. It will pick up surface litter, but not much else. I was making some bread the other day and spilled flour on the carpet. I tried pick it up with the 801 and it just beat it into the floor more. I went over it like 10 times! I got out the other Royal, and it sucked everything up in one pass! I actually have to hang on tight to the handle of the red bagged one, because if I don't, it will take flight right and zoom into the wall! The red bagged one has a brush roll with stiffeners on it, while the 801 has a chevron style with no stiffeners.

These are very neat vacuums that have truly stood the test of time. I'm sure you will love yours!

I really like the commercial one you have. I don't think it's ugly at all. As a matter of fact, I like the way it looks better than the other Royals.

When I was using my grandfather's MRY8300(about as new as they get)I picked up about a pound of dirt using a new belt and a fresh bag in the living room. I betcha it was because he has 7 dogs and 3 cats that all live mostly inside, but go in and out a ton.

The all metal Royals

I got one about 2 years ago. It is a beautiful cleaner but it never gets out of it's box. Mine is just so loud. I should have taken it back to the vac shop. I remember the older Royals that I had seen being very quiet. Mine is also too agressive on my carpets but it is very sturdy like the Kirby.
I also had a problem with getting the belt back on the machine. I can't imagine a woman getting that belt off and on to attach the dusting tools. I do like the A-JUST-O-RITE on the front and the great headlight. Maybe mine has something wrong from the factory that makes it so very loud.

All-metal Royals

I didn't realize the model 880 dated back to the early '60's. I have two 880's I purchased about 15 years ago. One came from an estate sale, complete with attachments, looking almost new. I love the older Royals because they are so quiet, and they draw very little current. Newer models have the same aluminum shell, but are noisier because of the sealed higher-amperage motors. They're nice looking, but not quite the same....

I Agree, Royals Are Hard To Beat!!

However, the older ones ARE much quieter. They have kind of a sweet zoom sound instead of roaring at you like the new ones do. But they're ALL powerful, maneuverable, durable, fairly lightweight and well balanced machines, not to mention darned nice looking!!
And actually, the 880 had quite a long production run, I think into the early 80's, and was made both as a Royal and as an Electro-Hygiene. The EH 880 looks the same as the Royal 880, except the adjust-o-rite, cord, handle grip, and headlight and nozzle guards will be red, and the bag will most likely be white with red printing. The 601, 602, 801, and 777 all had long production runs too, if I'm not mistaken.
So yes, buy that Royal and enjoy it!!
