Is the "hush tone" button like a "hi/lo" switch for the motor speed? When I purchased my new Hoover Decade 80 the shop owner advised me to avoid overusing the surge setting as it's hard on the motor brushes. As I recall you had to push and hold the switch in surge position,it wouldn't stay in surge position otherwise. On my Kenmore canister EVPC 4.5 which has variable speed control at the pistol grip, you can slow the machine down, and sliding it upwards brings the machine back to the normal running speed as if it were a single speed vacuum. The power nozzle isn't effected by the setting except for the on/off switch. The main motor isn't over taxed by adding more amperage than in regular speed. I wonder if these are a "distant"cousin of R2D2, it appears they share a little DNA,lol.
