I got sucked into buying one of Jim keelers conversion kits and I have to say that it's a real piece of crap. The build quality is terrible at best. Also, the airways get progressively smaller from the point where it attaches to the Kirby to the point where it enters the canister. Combine that with a tiny pleated filter that will clog after about 30 minutes of use and you have a Kirby with a bad case of asthma. My conversion did not have an O-Ring seal around the lid and it leaked air badly around the rim. Also there was a square hole in the top of the canister opposite the side where the PVC pipe was inserted that Jim Keeler attempted to seal with a glued on piece of plastic. It fell off before I could even use it for the first time. I had to attempt to re-glue the patch but was unable to get Super Glue to bond with it. I eventually used Duct Tape to cover the hole so that I could at least try this thing out. Overall this conversion isn't worth the money. I should have purchased $80 worth of Kirby bags which would have lasted me about 2 years instead of this piece of junk.

I would like to think the pleated filters Mr Keeler is using were orig designed to have the air PULLED thru them rather than PUSHED into them.Thought the Keeler thing died a miserable death!I have no desire to convert my Kirby to a bagless-if you want to go that route-why not get a dump inner bag for your machine that uses disposable bags.Then of course the older Kirbys had the dump bags as standard equipment.Thought there was a company that made inner dump bags for various types of vacuums-including Kirby "G" ones.
The first time I saw the keeler bagless conversion I laughed. I thought there's no way this works worth crap, so I took one of those eureka bins I had laying around and a Kirby hose end, some PVC and glue and threw together a bagless conversion of my own. I put it on my Kirby g6 and turned it on. It sounded like you were covering the end of the fill tube and cutting off all air flow. I began to vacuum. As soon as stuff went into the bin, it caked to the filter and further made it sound like the air flow was completely cut off. I then threw the assembly in the trash and put the bag back on

Now this might shock most of you, but I have plans to do my EXPERIMENTAL Bagless Kirby conversion.
Idea in this is to keep the dirt away from the filter and use large filter to maintain the airflow.
IF it works I am happy, but I have to test the real airflow with my baird airflow meter. That's very important.
This will keep the Kirby original (it is removable) and I will keep the bag assembly just because of the originality.
Heart of this system is dust deputy cyclone (99% efficiency).
Whole thing looks ugly for now, but if it's worth to keep it will be black.
I still wait for the cyclone to arrive so let's see...

Why in the world would you want to ruin a perfectly good Kirby by making it bagless???
I am quite sure doing that will reduce the airflow making the G six less efficient. I will look forward to the video of the Baird meter test and also the big mess test.

This was what I was expecting to be commented and fair so.
This is not ruining the Kirby. The bag assembly still remains. It's easy to convert back.
This is experimental test to do a bagless conversion what has true high efficiency cyclone with the big airflow capacity.
Dust Deputy is rated to handle up to 150 cfm airflow. Effciency is over 99 percent.
Note that it will be only attached to the Kirby air outlet so it's very easy and quick to remove.
My goal is to show that you can have a good bagless conversion that will put Keelers conversion to shame.

Stan - Actually, I don't think this is such a bad idea at all. The main fault with the Keeler bagless conversion was the fact it had a clogging filter in the middle. This idea, with the filter being outside the dirt cup on top, looks like it might work well. Now what remains to be seen is how much dust & dirt actually get to the filter.

Yes it is ugly, but dimension in the picture are wrong and it's going to be black. So let's hope it will look decent.
Oneida Air Systems has spent a lot of research and testing to get it separating the best possible way.
But now I just have to test it with the Kirby.
