A huge thank you to my dear friend,John Gregory from Pennsylvania for the spec sheets on my beloved, near perfect Hoover self-propelled model 1178 from late in the run in 1974. Mine has the up-to-the-minute 900 W motor, giving it all the extra suction power a near-perfect upright vacuum cleaner needs. I have had it for a very long time and have never actually done much with it until recently when I retired. I have been doing All the summer cleaning with it. Every home should be a Hoover home.

tom its the least i could do for you and the friendship you and i have enjoyed these past 15 years ...you are such an awesome gentleman and i treasure all the hoover cleaners that come from you and still have to this day .......having the 900 watt dam 1178 is an awesome unit right at the cusp of turning into the u6039 for the oyster white edition with sea blue medium for 1975 and the u6007 and u6009 were carried into the 1975 high performance collection for they were just released in early 1974 in all taupe but with the front and rear bag doors were colored the rest of the unit was taupe .... hoover made them part of the running change to the oyster white body updates keeping their original colors for the front panel and bag doors and added the co ordinated colored rubber furniture guards and powerdrive handle grips from the light taupe bland look..... hoover also updated their base nameplates to the new modern color co- ordinated labels refreshing the unit to match the cleaner from the older early 1178 heavily embossed lettering which is my favorite........ all made in 1975....... with one exception the u6009 had a special large script in an ornate hand written style automatic power drive as that spec sheet illustrates .....but the 1178 was the king and i think the 1178 was the most famous of all the dial a matics
