Testament To My Kirby

I was at my former house today and the 20 year old carpeting is being taken out so new hardwood floors can be installed. I built the house new 20 years ago. Soon after we moved in the Kirby Salesman came by one evening and the rest is history. I was using my parents Air-Way 66 at the time.When the carpet was pulled up there wasn't a trace of dust,grit or dirt under the carpeting. I was surprised and at the same time pleased. This carpet has been cleaned by my Kirby Legend II for all these years and I guess it was doing it's job! I still have that same Kirby Legend II and am using it at the new house. I wonder if it will still be going in another 20 years!

I have heard of similar stories from Kirby salesmen-they tell it to prospects about older carpet that has been taken up and no dirt under it that other vacuums miss.also see stories similar to that in the kirby sales magazine submitted by pleased customers that have had a kirby cleaner over the years and when their old carpet was taken up and replaced-no dirt under it.

Hi Rex i have to add to the Kirby storie i had carpet installed back in March 07 My Kirby was no where in sight after they began to remove the old rug one of the men said i must ask you but i think i no the answer already you have a Kirby right i said yes he said they really clean. He than said he would love to be able to have one but money is not their my wife and i just make it each week he was 21 i felt bad for him i said come with me showed him my many Kirbys and said pick one its yours. ( he picked the g5 he called his wife she thanked me as well over and over again. I made a friend for life he and his wife come over every so often. He is likea second son to me all bcause of the Kirby. ( GOOD ENDING Doug

My grandmother told me a similar story. She said back in the early 1970's, they had their old carpet replaced. When the carpet men pulled the old carpet back, not a speck of dust. She said one of th men asked her what type of vacuum she owned and she wheeled out her Kirby Dual Sanitronic 80. The carpet men were extremelly impressed according to grandma. Soon after the Kirby's fan broke, instead of having it fixed, she bought a Hoover self propelled model. She used it for many years until she finally got tired of it not picking up well and the hose constantly clogging up on her. She then came to me asking if I could find her another Kirby. At the time I had quite an extensive collection and I let her have her choice. She picked the Classic Omega and is still using it, she loves it!

I related this story to a friend of mine tonight, she called to tell me that she inadvertently sucked up the water in her toilet with her Hoover Savvy vacuum while cleaning the bathroom fan (yes, I know) so we were talking about Kirby vacuums and my mother's G-3. She said the Hoover is still running but thought it might be time to start looking for a new cleaner. Probably...

I'll keep my eyes open for a G series for her, too bad though, I just saw a beautiful G4 at an estate sale two weeks ago for $100!

It was also said that the Kirby can suck dirt and skin flakes,dust mites from the center of matteresses.hence the black pad in the Kirby dirtmeter matteress demo.The main use for the kirby when converted to a hand held cleaner.No hand held can match the Kirby! I can't remember where-but a while ago saw a video clip of a sectioned matteress and the Kirby sucking dirt out of it.

Many a Kirby has been sold on the basis of dead skin and dust mites sucked out of mattresses. Sometimes people can't sign the sales order fast enough.

Heritage - Legend II, my favorites

These models last forever and clean great,all Kirbys are great machines,I find Heritage and Heritage II models all the time and they always run,I read Dougs thread about the carpet installer,that was sooo nice of him,I had to bring my Heritage II out of storage, I hurt my back and couldn't use it,so I've been using the Oreck,I'm feeling better,so I want to use the Kirby again,It is a small head model that I got on e-bay,they didn't know what they had,the plastic emptor was cracked when I got it,but I've picked up a Heritage I and II,so I combined the good mini enptor from the HeritageII with the red bag from the Heritage,I like the red bag on the Heritage II better than the grey one,the full size emptor won't work on this machine,because they widend the rear wheels,I havn't polished it yet,but plan on it. Hi Mark I also have the Heritage2 infact i have three i would love to come across the small headreally dont no why Kirby ever changed it to begin with.I see you are a realKirby fan as i am also they are the best.Have you ever used any of the G SERIES they are very nice and do a VERY good job on the rugs. Funny the young man i gave the g5 to just left it felt so good to help him out they love it he says his mom thought they got a new rug in their living room. It was good to hear these wonderful Kirby stories. A young lady who does some apartment and townhouse cleaning for our company wanted a vacuum cleaner with excellent suction that wasn't too heavy. So, for a short time, I said she could clean with a Kirby Model 518 from my collection.

Needless to say, I have a few Kirbys, including the Model C of 1935, and a Vacuette non-electric and a Scott and Fetzer Sanitation System that preceded the Kirby. I have a number of Kirbys in the 500 series, including a 505; a Sanitronic 50; and a Heritage II Legend, which is the newest I have.

Hi Doug,I have three Heritage 2's also,this is my second one,the first one I bought in '87,I went to a lady's house to buy a washer and spotted the Kirby on a shelf in the garage,I asked her if she wanted to sell it,she said her husband bought it for her and he was long gone so I guess she didn't like the Kirby or him and let me have it for 20.00 or less I can't remember,It had all the attachments,the front bearing was bad,that was no problem,I worked at a Kirby dealer from '79-83 doing repairs,I was in my 20's and lived in a large house with two sloppy roomates and a Saint Bernard,so that Kirby got a real workout,I later got an electrolux 1205 that I used on light cleaning days, but when I brought out the Kirby they knew it was heavy cleaning that day,one roommate would say,he's bring out the big guns.
