Tan G question

I just got a tan model G. I thought that the tan G had a larger motor than the older G's. Is this true? All of mine say 535 watts on the ID plate. The suction "feels" the same on all 3. Does anyone know for sure?

I have heard that the Tan G has a "stronger" motor than the Blue G but I have yet to see one that proves that to me. I think the suction is the same. The one difference I have found is the Tan G is just a tab bit louder than the Blue G (but not by much).

That is one of Electrolux's most beautiful machines. Congratulations on your find. I hope you enjoy it.

During the production of the Tan G, the motor was changed to a slightly more powerful one - which was the same motor then used in the 1205 and Golden Jubilee. Then when the Super J came out, another motor, a bit more powerful yet, came out.

So if you have an early G, you have the same motor as the late AE, F and G. If you have a late G, you have the same motor as a 1205 & Golden J.

There is a way to tell if you have an older or newer tan G but I can't remember exactly what it is. Something about the carbon brush holders. I ==think== it is that the new motor has red plastic clips or tips or bits of some sort on the carbon brush holders. It's all a sort-of vague memory now.

Until seeing them lined up like this, i didnt realize there was a turquoise G and a baby blue G,,WOW! How cool!

One of my Aunts had a Turq. model G that i remember being crazy about,,Especially the PN,,,it was a PN1, but without any sheath on the wand of the PN(and the wand was one piece of strait chrome pipe) ,,just a couple of cord clips to hold the cord onto the wand,,,there was a PN socket and plug at the end handle of the hose, with the cord strapped to the hose with turquoise rubber straps.
The regular flip over floor tool did have the "Gleaner" bar that had a little lever on the side to turn it on or off.
I also remember being facinated with the little louvered trap door over the exhaust.
If i caught my Aunt in a good mood she would let me vacuum the whole house with that G,,,,that vacuum was a pleasure to use!

She had different colors and textures of carpet in each room, so it was fun to see how the PN reacted on the different carpets.
She had a long stairway carpeted with a piece of each color and kind of carpet in the house, so, each stair was different,,,ha, how 1960s can you get! lol

I realize now what a workhorse the Model G really was,,,my Aunt's house was very large, with wall to wall thick carpet, and i know she had that model G for well over 25 years, and it was the only vacuum she had. She was one of those ultra fussy people that vacuumed twice a week,,so that model G had a heck of a life!
I know she traded it for a new Olympia in the early 80s, and the model G was still going, but had seen better days. I dont think it had ever been in the shop, or anything ever replaced on it,,including the hose.
Really is remarkable.

Got a nice early model G (with the PN socket in the front) off of E-Bay once, but sold it to a friend. Darrrnnnn it,,,why did i do that?!!

I remember one neighbor lady back in the late 60s (who had a brown model G), that stored the cannister in her downstairs bathroom right next to her toilet! ( i have no idea why, as her house was large, and certainly had enough closet space), so id always make an excuse to have to use her bathroom, just so i could play with that Brown model G for awhile. HAHA,,,memories!

Sorry to get your hopes up but the early one on the left is a repaint. Not an exact color match but it does look good. you'd never know the difference if I didn't put it next to the newer original one in the middle.

The motors look the same

I have rebuilt many of the model G's.The early G's 1960-61 have motors that the bearing is pressed on to the shaft,the 62-66 blue has a bearing plate with a sleeve making the bearing easier to replace .The Blue G's motor compartments are lined with felt this was to make them quite,however the felt gets full of dirt and gets smelly.
The tan and my 1967 hospital G dont have felt in the motor compartments they use the same brushes and bearings that the later blue G's use the motors look identical.

Hi I have sold many restored G's on Ebay,Yours looks like one that I restored did you buy it from new2youvacuums or trend designs? I love repainting them,they look like new again.

Wow good eye. I also have a model L in silver hammertone that I bought from you. They are both wonderful. They are the only vacuums I have bought on ebay that I wasn't somehow disappointed with. If you want to sell anymore let me know.
On a side note one of the guys at the Lux dealer in town wouldn't belive me when I told him my G was repainted. Must be a good job if you can fool the dealer!

Nice to see that G went to a good home

Hi Nick,I used lowes brand paint and two coats of clear lacquer yes she looks great!!!. I finished rebuilding a factory rebuild silver model G that I use for a daily driver. every time I get in model G's or L's I feel obligated to fully restore them with new motor parts and paint. Did you have a look at the tristar I am selling on ebay?? this is also a awesome machine.
