Rainbow e2

I LOVE the switch on my Rainbow e2 2008 Platinum and Blue edition. I also love the start up sound of said vacuum :o)

Good when they work..

I like the handle switches, typical of Hoover convertibles and pre-war Hoover uprights.

They're very handy, especially in tight spots when you want finger-tip control and I like the positive feel that you get in your hand.

However, there is a down side and that is when it comes to repairing them. I recall not long ago taking a similar switch apart on a Hoover 370 Junior. It required patience driving out the small rivets without cracking the bakelite/plastic and balancing the little square plate on the end of the plunger/spring on re-assembly.

The fault was merely corrosion of the curved metal contacts, both stationary and moving, due no doubt to long storage.

I've also had an air-way switch apart, similar to the one illustrated, since I needed to rewire the machine. I was a little careless and some bits flew out so patience was required to ensure correct re-assembly.

The 2-speed switch was first used on Model 750, but I do have a 725 which has a single-speed arrow-ended switch.

Here's the arrow-ended 2-speed switch on my 800.

little fingers

I remember my Aunt's old Kirby or Royal upright. I apologize for not knowing; she traded it before I was even potty trained. I was very very small and vacuumed as soon as I could walk--but my fingers couldn't push the metal ball-tipped toggle switch on or off. The spring in that thing was just too stiff. I also used to have to hide for a second until the bag fully inflated. Scary. Still, I had to help push it back and forth. I was definitly born with this affinity.
