That was a consumer's best buy a few years back, and it still is! We bought one new, it was a good choice! They're really good vacuums!

haha

No I was at my buddy's house and didn't bother to move the boots. And I can see why it was a consumer best, it was getting sand out of the carpet

I have kinda been interested in the SmartVac lately.... I've heard a lot of good things about them, I think I should try one out!

A very good Eureka for the money these days. It has been recommended by Consumer Reports for several years due to excellent carpet cleaning and removal of pet hair from carpets. Ease of use was only rated "good" due to it's weight and location of switches. But it has a proper set of three classic Eureka World Vac attachments on board - upholstery nozzle, nice full size dusting brush and crevice tool.

Here's CR's take on the Model 4870:

"Consider the moderately priced Smart Vac a smart pick if you have carpets and pets--less smart if you do lots of cleaning with tools. Impressive carpet cleaning and superb pickup on bare floors and pet hair for less than many models are all reasons to put this bagged upright on your shopping list. It was also superb at containing the dust it picks up. Other pluses include manual carpet pile-height adjustment, which is better than automatic systems at matching the brush to the surface, and a brush on/off switch to safeguard bare floors and prevent scattered dust and debris. Minuses: an inconveniently placed on/off switch and mediocre airflow through the hose. This Boss also lacks suction control to help protect drapes when using tools.

Highs
• Excels at removing embedded dirt from carpets
• Performs well when cleaning bare floors; ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, and hardwood floors
• Does well at picking up pet hair, which is nice if you have a cat or dog
• Excels in capturing all the dust it picks up, which is good if you have allergies or respiratory illness
• Has a manual carpet pile-height adjustment, which is better than automatic systems at matching the brush to the surface
• Has a brush on/off switch, which safeguards bare floors and prevents scattered dust and debris

Lows
• You must bend to adjust the pile height
• The on/off switch is inconveniently placed
• Lacks suction control, which helps protect drapes when using tools
