Okay, I know the title is pretty ambiguous, but I guess this is sort of a question as much as a statement to everybody here.
Have you ever picked up a newer, cheap, almost toy-like vacuum cleaner to use for a small pickup job and actually be pleasantly surprised by its performance and quietness of the motor? I typically stick to my larger vacuums for housecleaning (Electrolux, Rainbow, Kirby, etc.) but last fall, if you remember I went to Elizabethton TN to visit Jimmy Martin and picked up a truckload of vacuums. Among those, were a few smaller vacuums that I figured would make good toys for my kids to play with. To make a long story short, one of those vacs was a little Dirt Devil Dynamite II. I had cleaned it up and my kids were playing with it as a toy. One day I needed a vac for a really small pick up job on an area rug and grabbed it just because it was right there and I wouldn’t have to go dig something else out. Most of these small vacs I’ve ever turned on scream like a cat that’s had its tail caught in a door, and I didn’t expect any better from this one. Let me tell you, that little stinker surprised me completely! Not only was the motor relatively quiet, I was shocked at what all it yanked out of that rug in the few passes I made with it! Now I know it’s not going to replace my E2 Black, it sure caught me off guard, and now I find I grab it anytime I need a quick pickup vac or to clean the area rugs in the house!
Has anyone else run into a situation like this, or has anyone had good success with the Dynamite II in particular? Oh, and I haven’t left the kids out, since I kind of took their “toy” from them, I ordered them a brand new Dynamite II from eBay ($10 plus shipping)!
