Sunbeam Touch N Lock Canister! (FIND OF THE DAY)

This is a Sunbeam touch and lock canister

it has the most unique motor and fan, and for those who have or own one you would know exactly what im talking about.

This machine is 7 amps and the color scheme is cloud blue and lavender.

What a beuty!

funny thing is, is i was on ebay yesterday before i had this unit and saw a sunbeam on there and was like "DAMMMN I WANT ONE"

I found this gem at goodwill outlet along with a eureka upright.
got them both for 11.50

Quitest runner yet in my collection!

This sunbeam has a magnet on top of the motor that magnitizes the lid on!

its cool and failsafe as in i wont have to worrie about latches and stuff breaking!

Looks like Sunbeam's take on the Hoover Celebrity....

I see a LOT of those Sunbeam canisters come into the repair shop, usually with dead motors after lots of use. The owner of the vac shop says these were pretty good for their time, & considering they were a 'value' brand.

Brandon - Very cool. You did a good job on the video, too.

The steel sticker on the tank has nothing to do with the Steelers. It was a symbol stuck on many steel products in the 70's to indicate that real US steel was used in the product. I believe the original emblem denoted that the steel came from Pittsburgh, and I think that's how the team came to use it years later.

Hi there Rob in Orillia!

Actually, I think that the Hoover Celebrity was inspired by this circular Sunbeam and the Eureka Crown Princess, both of which were on the market at least 5 to 7 years before Hoover started making the Celebrity. I think these Sunbeam "saucer" vacs were in stores even in 1965......

Well, wonders never cease! Then again, I am not as knowledgeable as others are about the Sunbeam brand....all I know is, it looked to me like a cheap knockoff of the Celebrity. And I can always blame the vacshop guy for having bad information- he said one time these particular Sunbeam vacs came around around 1974 or 1975. So, there's my out- I can always blame him for thinking the Celebrity came out first & the Sunbeam was a copycat, LOL.

Both are probably right. If I remember correctly the blue sunbeams were in the early 70's but the Pink / Brown ones go back as early as 1960. There are also Green versions that came after the blue machines.

Rob!!! No worries! Vacuumland is a great place for fine tuning our knowledge of vacs!!! We probably know more here about them then most of the nasty vac shop owners in Toronto (trust me...I know from experience!).

Thanks Doug for the additional information! I could swear I remember seeing a brown Sunbeam saucer-vac at my cousin's home in the mid 1960's - and you just confirmed that!

Just for information:

This was the delux model 630 (I'm missing the floorbrush and crevice tool from this picture) You could also get an optional air driven powerhead. In 1960 Simpson-Sears sold it for $89.95

This was the step down model: 635 which is predacessor of the one you have Brandon. In 1964 Eatons sold this model for $67.95
