I found a really nice Electrolux epic 3500 sr at the thrift store yesterday for $12.00. The hose is sticky like it’s been in a hot garage. Does anyone know what to use to make the stickiness go away? I had another hose from an upright with the same issue. Thanks

My leav vac hose got sticky, I store it in the shed, hot in the summer, cold in the winter, that’s what I thought caused it. I’ll have to try scrubbing it up, no one like a sticky hose.

I think

The stickiness is the vinyl breaking down unfortunately. I’ve had this happen to all sort of things and some of them not in extreme temps. Though I’ve never had it happen to an Aerus/Electrolux hose.

If the above methods don’t work try some goo gone or an Orange oil based cleaner...those are good for removing the sticky residue from labels and perhaps might work.

I’d be a little less apt to soak the hose versus soak a rag in the cleaner and then wipe the hose eith it repeatedly.

If it is the stabilizer in the rubber breaking down and rotting, get some foot powder and rub it into the rubber, brush off the excess, reapply, and do that until it stops being sticky. The rubber will suck up the powder and bind to that instead. As a consequence the more the stabilizer leeches out the more brittle the rubber becomes and it will begin splitting apart. Sadly nothing can be done to fix this other than if the factory would have used a quality manufacturing process. I have cell phones from the late 90s and early 2000's with the same problem.

It was an easy fix! I soaked it and rubbed in Murphy oil soap and let it sit over night. Yes I do believe it is the rubber breaking down from sitting in a hot environment. Makes sense.
